TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored how early maladaptive schemas (EMSs) contribute to the development of anxiety symptomologies among college undergraduates (N=110) by assessing the correlations between 18 schemas derived from Young's model of Early Maladaptive Schemas and anxiety symptoms using Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), self-reported anxiety assessment arranging severity into 4 indexes ranging from normal range, minimal to moderate anxiety, marked to severe anxiety, and extreme anxiety.
Abstract: This study explores how early maladaptive schemas (EMSs) contribute to the development of anxiety symptomologies among college undergraduates (N=110). The study was conducted by assessing the correlations between 18 schemas derived from Young’s model of Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMSs) and anxiety symptoms using Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), self-reported anxiety assessment arranging severity into 4 indexes ranging from normal range, minimal to moderate anxiety, marked to severe anxiety, and extreme anxiety. The study examined how each of the 18 individual EMSs serves as predictors of anxiety symptomatology in college students. The results of the study show that 14 out of 18 early maladaptive schemas (EMSs) were predictive of anxiety symptoms. Aside from the association of anxiety symptoms and EMSs, the findings of the study reveal the important role of gender and ethnicity in predicting anxiety and individual EMSs. Unrelenting Standard/Hyper criticalness and Approval-Seeking/Recognition-Seeking were the two leading EMSs characterized by the majority of the respondents may be explained by the Thai collectivist culture which incorporates the values that form a part of these schemas as socially desirable and emphasizes the importance of conformity and approval of others.

TL;DR: This paper presents the first work-efficient parallel batch-dynamic algorithm for incremental MST, which can insert l edges in O(l log(1+n/l) work in expectation and O(polylog(n) span w.p.h.)), and demonstrates a range of applications that become efficiently solvable in parallel in the sliding-window model.
Abstract: Algorithms for dynamically maintaining minimum spanning trees (MSTs) have received much attention in both the parallel and sequential settings. While previous work has given optimal algorithms for dense graphs, all existing parallel batch-dynamic algorithms perform polynomial work per update in the worst case for sparse graphs. In this paper, we present the first work-efficient parallel batch-dynamic algorithm for incremental MST, which can insert l edges in O(l log(1+n/l) work in expectation and O(polylog(n)) span w.h.p. The key ingredient of our algorithm is an algorithm for constructing a compressed path tree of an edge-weighted tree, which is a smaller tree that contains all pairwise heaviest edges between a given set of marked vertices. Using our batch-incremental MST algorithm, we demonstrate a range of applications that become efficiently solvable in parallel in the sliding-window model, such as graph connectivity, approximate MSTs, testing bipartiteness, k-certificates, cycle-freeness, and maintaining sparsifiers.

TL;DR: This article investigated the extent of earnings management during the financial crisis of 2008 (The Great Recession) based on a large sample of 14,000 observations across 15 years, and found that firms managed earnings less aggressively during the crisis.
Abstract: We investigate the extent of earnings management during the financial crisis of 2008 (The Great Recession). Based on a large sample of 14,000 observations across 15 years, our results show that firms managed earnings less aggressively during the crisis. We also show a severe decline in firm value and profitability during the crisis. Our results are consistent with the notion that, during the crisis, firm performance was so far below the target that no amount of earnings management would have been sufficient to reverse the poor earnings picture. As a result, managers were less motivated to manage earnings. Furthermore, the crisis serves as a convenient excuse for poor performance, lessening the motivation and necessity for managers to manage earnings. Additional analysis including fixed‐effects regressions, propensity score matching, and GMM dynamic panel data estimation shows that our results are robust and are not driven by unobserved heterogeneity. Further analysis documents similar findings for the Dot‐com crisis in 2001 and the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997–1998.

Abstract: This paper explores the discrepancies between the official rhetoric on Malayness and the emerging discourse on national identity among the urban Malay (Melayu) youth of the Indonesian province Kepri. The population of the Riau Archipelago is multiethnic, with Malays as the majority and Kepulauan Riau represents an important historical centre for the whole Malay World. Because of this, local leaders have engaged this newly formed province in a series of attempts to revitalise a transnational ethnic awareness based on an inclusive Malay identity framework. However, most of the students I met during my recent fieldwork in Tanjung Pinang’s public schools tend to reject most ideas of reinforcing the bridge with the Malays of neighbouring nations, and prefer to perceive themselves primarily as Indonesian. This should not come as a surprise. Since 1998, the popular culture scene has been largely influenced by reformasi movements all over Indonesia. For the Tanjung Pinang youth, urban Indonesia, represented especially by Jakarta, is synonymous with dynamism and democratisation, while Malaysia and Singapore are regarded as moralistic and patronising.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the level of importance of 50 factors drawn upon 6 retailing mix framework and selected the factors that were ranked "most important" and "highly important" were then selected for second stage analysis by using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA).
Abstract: Through several statistical tests, this two staged research aims to study desired attributes of shoes and its retail shop. Four hundred fifty one samples were collected. In the first stage, the research analysed the level of importance of 50 factors drawn upon 6 retailing mix framework. The factors that were ranked “most important” and “highly important” were then selected for second stage analysis by using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Based on EFA analysis, six new critical latent factors were grouped and named as, “Well Trained and Experienced Salesforce”, “Product Quality and Functions”, “Attractive Store and Product Presentation”, “Price and Perceived Value”, “Health and Comfort”, and “Fashion and Trends”. The research further explored if there was a significant difference of such factors on “Gender”, “Income Level” and “Age” of consumers. “Gender” and “Age” were confirmed to be the other drivers that could alter consumers’ perspectives toward the desired attributes of shoes and its retail shops. The shoe manufacturers and retailers are urged to take all these desired attributes into their consideration when they plan to develop and launch new shoe collections to market.
