TL;DR: The photosynthetic type accounts for broad distributions within the Poaceae but these distributions are further modified by characteristics which may be inherent in the tribal groups, and Ecological and paleoecological significance of these patterns of distribution are discussed.
Abstract: More than 500 species of the Poaceae are found in Kenya, East Africa. Eighteen of twenty-seven tribes are exclusively (except the Paniceae and Danthonieae) of the C3 photosynthetic type. A floristic analysis of low altitude grasslands suggests that nearly all species at these low altitudes are of the C4 photosynthetic type. At high altitudes, however, nearly all grasses are of the C3 photosynthetic type. Open grassland vegetation was sampled along a transect from arid low altitude sites to the top of Mt. Kenya in an attempt to document the general distributions of the photosynthetic types.

TL;DR: Convenience of administration was the main criterion applied by students when deciding whether they would prefer to administer straight or modified ECT to a patient, and confirmed the clinical impression that students regarded straight ECT as an inhumane method of treatment.
Abstract: In Third World countries, limited resources of anaesthetists and resuscitation facilities mean that electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is usually given 'straight' (i.e. without anaesthetic and muscle relaxant). This study compared the attitudes of Ugandan medical students towards ECT given straight and ECT administered with muscle relaxant and general anaesthesia (i.e. 'modified' ECT). Results confirmed the clinical impression that students regarded straight ECT as an inhumane method of treatment. However, whilst this was a major factor influencing students' preference for modified ECT as a treatment for themselves or for a close friend, it was relatively unimportant in determining their choice of ECT technique for a patient. Convenience of administration was the main criterion applied by students when deciding whether they would prefer to administer straight or modified ECT to a patient. Implications for medical education and the development of professional attitudes are discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a kinetic study of the oxidation of allyl alcohol by potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) in the presence of palladium (II) chloride is reported.
Abstract: A kinetic study of the oxidation of allyl alcohol by potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) in the presence of palladium (II) chloride is reported. The reaction was observed by measuring the disappearance of the potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) spectrophotometrically. The reaction is first order with respect to allyl alcohol and palladium (II) chloride, inverse second order with respect to [Cl−], and zero order with respect to potassium hexacyanoferrate (III). The rate is found to increase linearly with hydroxyl ion concentration.

TL;DR: The fine structure of the epitheliochorial placenta of the zebra is described and there are ultrastructural differences between the attached and free maternal epithelium.
Abstract: ummary The fine structure of the epitheliochorial placenta of the zebra is described. There are ultrastructural differences between the attached and free maternal epithelium. Some maternal epithelial cells contain considerable quantities of agranular endoplasmic reticulum. The association between the maternal epithelium and cells of the trophoblast is villous. Crystalline inclusions are described in some trophoblast cells.
