TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the magneto-hydrodynamic peristaltic flow of a non-Newtonian fluid through a tapered asymmetric channel and found that the variable viscosity plays a major role in regulating the fluid velocity in the central part of the channel.
Abstract: The current work intends to investigate the magneto-hydrodynamic peristaltic flow of a non-Newtonian fluid through a tapered asymmetric channel. The transport of fluid with variable transport properties (viscosity and thermal conductivity) takes place through a porous medium. The problem is formulated under the basic assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number. The perturbation technique has been implemented to yield the solution for momentum and energy equations. The pumping characteristics such as pressure rise and frictional force have been evaluated by Weddles rule using MATLAB software. The solutions which are graphed indicate that the variable viscosity plays a major role in regulating the fluid velocity in the central part of the channel. Also, as the channel becomes more divergent, the size of the bolus trapped in the peristaltic motion is found to increase.

TL;DR: The data presented can be used as a cut-off by eye care practitioners while diagnosing convergence, accommodation related anomalies in Indian population and found that NPC receded with age, which could because of the increase in horizontal phoria at near with age.
Abstract: Background: Measurement of for near point of convergence (NPC), amplitude of accommodation (AA) and phoria are important components of diagnosing nonstrabismic binocular vision anomalies. There is a huge variation in the normative data established for orthoptic parameters because of the variation in measurement technique. There are only limited studies for normative data based on nonclinical population in Indian population. Therefore, we aim estimate the normative values for NPC, AA, and phoria measurement in Indian population using techniques, which has good repeatability and reliability. Materials and Methods: Subjects between the age group 10-35 years participated in this prospective cross-sectional study. A self-administered symptom questionnaire was used to exclude patients with asthenopic symptoms. Clinical techniques which have good repeatability and reliability were used. NPC was measured using pen light red, green glass test. AA was measured using minus lens technique. Horizontal and vertical phoria at distance and near was measured using modified Thorington method. Results: One hundred and fifty subjects participated in the study. We found that NPC receded with age, which could because of the increase in horizontal phoria at near with age. The mean normative value for objective NPC, break and recovery of subjective NPC, monocular and binocular AA, horizontal and vertical phoria at distance and near for the three age groups are reported in the study. Conclusion: The data presented in this study can be used as a cut-off by eye care practitioners while diagnosing convergence, accommodation related anomalies in Indian population.

TL;DR: Significant protection mediated by chitohexaose (Chtx) in mice challenged with a lethal dose of APAP is demonstrated and Chtx being a small molecular weight linear carbohydrate offers promise for clinical management of liver failure associated with APAP overdose.
Abstract: Acetaminophen (N-acetyl-para-aminophenol (APAP)) toxicity causes acute liver failure by inducing centrilobular hepatic damage as a consequence of mitochondrial oxidative stress Sterile inflammation, triggered by hepatic damage, facilitates gut bacterial translocation leading to systemic inflammation; TLR4-mediated activation by LPS has been shown to have a critical role in APAP-mediated hepatotoxicity In this study, we demonstrate significant protection mediated by chitohexaose (Chtx) in mice challenged with a lethal dose of APAP (400 mg/kg bw) Decreased mortality by Chtx was associated with reduced hepatic damage, increased peritoneal migration of neutrophils, decreased mRNA expression of IL-1β as well as inhibition of inflammasome activation in liver Further, an alternate mouse model of co-administration of a sublethal doses of APAP (200 mg/kg bw) and LPS (5 mg/kg bw) operating synergistically and mediating complete mortality was developed Overwhelming inflammation, characterized by increased inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β and so on) in liver as well as in circulation and mortality was demonstrable in this model Also, Chtx administration mediated significant reversal of mortality in APAP+LPS co-administered mice, which was associated with reduced IL-1β in liver and plasma cytokines in this model In conclusion, Chtx being a small molecular weight linear carbohydrate offers promise for clinical management of liver failure associated with APAP overdose
