TL;DR: A series of iterative studies have resulted in improved intra- and inter-reader reliability for detecting and scoring synovitis from both static and real-time images of the hand joints of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
Abstract: Ultrasound (US) is a relatively new imaging modality in rheumatology that offers great potential as a diagnostic and management tool. In 2004, an OMERACT Ultrasound Special Interest Group was formed to address the metric qualities of US as a potential outcome measure. A preliminary systematic review highlighted the deficiencies in the literature, particularly with regard to the reliability of interpreting and acquiring images; as a consequence, a number of exercises were proposed to address these issues. This report describes a series of iterative studies that have resulted in improved intra- and inter-reader reliability for detecting and scoring synovitis from both static and real-time images of the hand joints of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The reliability of acquiring images was also enhanced using standardized positions. Future studies will assess the value of US in clinical trials.

TL;DR: The main indications of ultrasonography in rheumatology include the evaluation of patients with regional pain syndromes and chronic arthritis, short-term therapy monitoring and guidance for invasive procedures.
Abstract: Over the last decade, several studies have highlighted the value of ultrasonography for both clinical and research purposes in rheumatology. Ultrasonography is a non-invasive, inexpensive and free-of-radiation-hazards imaging technique providing quick and useful information for the management of rheumatic diseases. Considerable evidence supporting the role of ultrasonography in rheumatological clinical practice has led many rheumatologists to want to become experienced with this imaging technique. The main indications of ultrasonography in rheumatology include the evaluation of patients with regional pain syndromes and chronic arthritis, short-term therapy monitoring and guidance for invasive procedures. Ultrasonography's long learning curve is the main obstacle that hinders its widespread use in rheumatology. Many technical aspects may affect the scanning process and a correct interpretation of sonographic images depends on several elements such as a deep knowledge of ultrasonography anatomy and pathology.

TL;DR: Interestingly, the fungicidal effect exerted by Pikt and Kwkt against Dekkera bruxellensis is stable for at least 10 days in wine, suggesting a potential application for the two toxins as antimicrobial agents active on DekkerA/Brettanomyces during wine ageing and storage can be hypothesised.
Abstract: Two yeast killer toxins active on spoilage yeasts belonging to the genus Dekkera/Brettanomyces are here described for the first time. The two toxins produced by Pichia anomala (DBVPG 3003) and Kluyveromyces wickerhamii (DBVPG 6077), and named Pikt and Kwkt, respectively, differ for molecular weight and biochemical properties. Interestingly, the fungicidal effect exerted by Pikt and Kwkt against Dekkera bruxellensis is stable for at least 10 days in wine. Thus, a potential application for the two toxins as antimicrobial agents active on Dekkera/Brettanomyces during wine ageing and storage can be hypothesised.

TL;DR: This paper reflects the current recommendations of the 2004 World Health Organization-sponsored International Consultation on Screening for Prostate Cancer and builds on the existing work of several organizations.
Abstract: The information provided in the surgical pathology report of a prostate needle biopsy of carcinoma has become critical in the subsequent management and prognostication of the cancer. The surgical pathology report should thus be comprehensive and yet succinct in providing relevant information consistently to urologists, radiation oncologists and oncologists and, thereby, to the patient. This paper reflects the current recommendations of the 2004 World Health Organization-sponsored International Consultation, which was co-sponsored by the College of American Pathologists. It builds on the existing work of several organizations, including the College of American Pathologists, the Association of Directors of Anatomic and Surgical Pathologists, the Royal Society of Pathologists, the European Society of Urologic Pathology and the European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer.
