TL;DR: The beneficial effects of polyphenol-rich foods in relation to the Mediterranean diet and the dietary habits of long-lived individuals are discussed, and their ability to modulate bacterial genera in the gut is examined.

TL;DR: A possible deep-water non-evaporitic unit equivalent of the Messinian Lower Evaporites has been recognized in the Northern Apennine foredeep as discussed by the authors, whose existence is implicitly admitted in the two-step model of the Mediterranean Messinian salinity crisis.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study was conducted in 30 patients with a diagnosis of psoriasis clinically performed by an experienced dermatologist and 15 healthy participants, using a currently available sonography system equipped with a variable-frequency transducer and a Doppler frequency ranging from 7 to 14 MHz.
Abstract: Objective The purpose of this study was to show the potential of the latest sonographic equipment using high-frequency probes and a very sensitive power Doppler (PD) technique in depicting both skin and nail changes in patients affected by psoriasis. Methods The study was conducted in 30 patients with a diagnosis of psoriasis clinically performed by an experienced dermatologist and 15 healthy participants, using a currently available sonography system equipped with a variable-frequency transducer ranging from 6 to 18 MHz and a Doppler frequency ranging from 7 to 14 MHz. Results The images illustrated in this presentation are representative examples of the ability of sonography to show and characterize even minimal morphostructural and blood flow changes in patients with both psoriatic plaques and onychopathy. Conclusions This report provides pictorial evidence that high-resolution gray scale sonography with a PD technique is a real-time and noninvasive imaging technique that can be used as an adjunct to the clinical evaluation in assessing psoriatic disease.

TL;DR: The effects of curcumin on NF‐κβ are crucial to the understanding of the potent hepatoprotective role of this herb‐derived micronutrient.
Abstract: Liver diseases pose a major medical problem worldwide and a wide variety of herbs have been studied for the management of liver-related diseases. In this respect, curcumin has long been used in traditional medicine, and in recent years it has been the object of increasing research interest. In combating liver diseases, it seems clear that curcumin exerts a hypolipidic effect, which prevents the fatty acid accumulation in the hepatocytes that may result from metabolic imbalances, and which may cause nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Another crucial protective activity of curcumin, not only in the context of chronic liver diseases but also regarding carcinogenesis and other age-related processes, is its potent antioxidant activity, which affects multiple processes and signaling pathways. The effects of curcumin on NF-κβ are crucial to our understanding of the potent hepatoprotective role of this herb-derived micronutrient. Because curcumin is a micronutrient that is closely related to cellular redox balance, its properties and activity give rise to a series of molecular reactions that in every case and biological situation affect the mitochondria.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that low micromolar concentrations of extracellular NAD+ or NAD+ precursors, nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and NR, can reverse the FK866-induced cell death, this representing a plausible explanation for the failure of NAMPT inhibition as an anti-cancer therapy.
