TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between free radicals and oxidative stress in the inflammatory processes and in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and showed that the activity of paraoxonase in the plasma of MS patients was significantly lower with respect to controls.
Abstract: Paraoxonase, an enzyme associated with high density lipoproteins (HDL), plays an important role in the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties exerted by HDL. Increasing evidence supports a role of free radicals and oxidative stress in the inflammatory processes and in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of this study was to further investigate the relationship between oxidative damage and MS; therefore we compared the paraoxonase activity and levels of cholesteryl ester hydroperoxides (CE-OOH), as marker of lipid peroxidation, in plasma isolated from healthy subjects (n = 89) and from MS patients (n = 24) in the early stage disability (EDSS<3.5). Our results demonstrated for the first time that the activity of paraoxonase in the plasma of MS subjects was significantly lower with respect to controls (P <0.001). Moreover, our results showed a significant increase in the levels of CE-OOH in plasma from MS subjects (P<0.001). CE-OOH are biologically active substances derived from the oxidation of cholesteryl ester localized in the hydrophobic core of plasma lipoproteins (HDL, LDL). Therefore, our study demonstrates alterations of lipoprotein peroxidation in MS and provides further evidence that oxidative stress and impairment of the anti-oxidant system may play a role in MS.

TL;DR: The data regarding remission, ultrasound imaging and outcomes in patients with RA are reviewed to provide the background to a consensus statement from an international collaboration of ultrasonographers and rheumatologists who have recently formed a research network - the Targeted Ultrasound Initiative (TUI) group.
Abstract: For patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), remission can be achieved with tight control of inflammation and early use of disease modifying agents. The importance of remission as an outcome has been recently highlighted by European League Against Rheumatism recommendations. However, remission when defined by clinical remission criteria (disease activity score, simplified disease activity index, etc) does not always equate to the complete absence of inflammation as measured by new sensitive imaging techniques such as ultrasound (US) . There is evidence that imaging synovitis is frequently found in these patients and associated with adverse clinical and functional outcomes. This article reviews the data regarding remission, ultrasound imaging and outcomes in patients with RA to provide the background to a consensus statement from an international collaboration of ultrasonographers and rheumatologists who have recently formed a research network - the Targeted Ultrasound Initiative (TUI) group. The statement proposes that targeting therapy to PD activity provides superior outcomes compared with treating to clinical targets alone and introduces the rationale for a new randomised trial using targeted ultrasound in RA.

TL;DR: This paper presents the novel approach to estimate the PV cells degradations with DCNNs, the first exploitation of data acquired with a drone equipped with a thermal infrared sensor, and results show the effectiveness and the suitability of the proposed approach.
Abstract: . The number of distributed Photovoltaic (PV) plants that produce electricity has been significantly increased, and issue of monitoring and maintaining a PV plant has become of great importance and involves many challenges as efficiency, reliability, safety, and stability. This paper presents the novel approach to estimate the PV cells degradations with DCNNs. While many studies have performed images classification, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first exploitation of data acquired with a drone equipped with a thermal infrared sensor. The experiments on “Photovoltaic images Dataset”, a collected dataset, are presented to show the degradation problem and comprehensively evaluate the method presented in this research. Results in terms of precision, recall and F1-score show the effectiveness and the suitability of the proposed approach.
