TL;DR: An individualized surgical strategy for PTC and MTC rests on the joint resection of cervicocentral and ipsilateral cervicolateral compartments, which are more rarely affected, and were least affected in the primary setting.
Abstract: This retrospective investigation was undertaken to clarify the pattern of nodal metastasis in papillary (PTC) and medullary (MTC) thyroid carcinoma. Nodal metastases are associated with recurrence of both PTCs and MTCs. The extent of lymph node dissection is controversial owing to the lack of reliable diagnostic criteria for nodal metastases other than histopathology. Between November 1994 and October 1999 a total of 296 patients (134 PTCs, 162 MTCs) underwent total thyroidectomy in conjunction with a standard resection of at least the cervicocentral lymph node compartment. Of 10,446 sampled lymph nodes, 1641 were positive. All nodes were related to their respective cervicomediastinal compartments. The ipsilateral cervicolateral compartment was involved almost as often as the cervicocentral compartment in primary PTC (29% vs. 32%), reoperative PTC (21% vs. 37%), primary MTC (34% vs. 34%), and reoperative MTC (49% vs. 65%). The contralateral cervicolateral and mediastinal compartments were more rarely affected, and were least affected in the primary setting. From these data was derived an individualized surgical strategy for PTC and MTC. This concept rests on the joint resection of cervicocentral and ipsilateral cervicolateral compartments. Depending on tumor entity, surgical status, and primary tumor diameter, additional compartments may have to be cleared.

TL;DR: In this paper, the notion of media enjoyment in the context of film viewing is discussed, with a special focus on the domain of more serious, poignant, and pensive media experiences typically associated with genres such as drama, history, documentary, or art films.
Abstract: This article elaborates upon the notion of media enjoyment in the context of film viewing by proposing a complementary type of gratification that we conceptualize as appreciation. Three studies were conducted to tap into the multidimensionality of viewers' entertainment gratifications with a special focus on the domain of more serious, poignant, and pensive media experiences typically associated with genres such as drama, history, documentary, or art films. These studies provide evidence of and measurement for gratifications related to fun and suspense, but also gratifications related to moving and thought-provoking entertainment experiences, with all three gratifications leading to perceptions of entertainment having a more long-lasting or enduring effect. The results are discussed with regard to the theoretical conceptualization of entertainment gratification.

TL;DR: The authors tested the hypothesis that there are three major prototypic patterns of personality description (resilient, overcontrolled, and undercontrolled) in a series of studies including adults' self-descriptions on the Big Five and parents' Big Five judgments of their childern, using both replicated cluster analyses and replicated Q-factor analyses.
Abstract: We tested the hypothesis that there are three major prototypic patterns of personality description (resilient, overcontrolled, and undercontrolled) in a series of studies including adults' self-descriptions on the Big Five and parents' Big Five and Q-Sort judgments of their childern, using both replicated cluster analyses and replicated Q-factor analyses. The consistency of the prototypes across ages, judges, and methods was quantitatively measured. The results confirmed the hypothesis in all studies. Personality social relationship, and social interaction correlates of the prototypes indicated externalizing tendencies for undercontrollers and internalizing tendencies for overcontrollers for both childern and adults. The studies provide strong evidence for a three-prototype model of personality description at the highest level of analysis for both childhood and adulthood. TL;DR: In this review, the current knowledge on the infection strategies and regulatory networks controlling secreted virulence factors from Xanthomonas species are summarized.
Abstract: Plant pathogenic bacteria of the genus Xanthomonas cause a variety of diseases in economically important monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous crop plants worldwide Successful infection and bacterial multiplication in the host tissue often depend on the virulence factors secreted including adhesins, polysaccharides, LPS and degradative enzymes One of the key pathogenicity factors is the type III secretion system, which injects effector proteins into the host cell cytosol to manipulate plant cellular processes such as basal defense to the benefit of the pathogen The coordinated expression of bacterial virulence factors is orchestrated by quorum-sensing pathways, multiple two-component systems and transcriptional regulators such as Clp, Zur, FhrR, HrpX and HpaR Furthermore, virulence gene expression is post-transcriptionally controlled by the RNA-binding protein RsmA In this review, we summarize the current knowledge on the infection strategies and regulatory networks controlling secreted virulence factors from Xanthomonas species

TL;DR: Self-reports, peer reports, intelligence tests, and ratings of personality and intelligence from 15 videotaped episodes were collected for 600 participants and a particularly strong single predictor was how persons read short sentences.
Abstract: Self-reports, peer reports, intelligence tests, and ratings of personality and intelligence from 15 video-taped episodes were collected for 600 participants. The average cross-situational consistency of trait impressions across the 15 episodes was .43. Shared stereotypes related to gender and age were mostly accurate and contributed little to agreement among judges. Agreement was limited mainly by nonshared meaning systems and by nonoverlapping information. Personality inferences from thin slices of behavior were significantly associated with reports by knowledgeable informants. This association became stronger when more episodes were included, but gains in prediction were low beyond 6 episodes. Inferences of intelligence from thin slices of behavior strongly predicted intelligence test scores. A particularly strong single predictor was how persons read short sentences.
