TL;DR: In this paper, the importance that USMA graduates attach to various job characteristics was studied and it was shown that Maslow's need structure offers a useful theoretical basis for interpreting the graduates' need structure insofar as their jobs are concerned.
Abstract: : Within 3 years it is anticipated that the US may have an All-Volunteer Army. Many changes have been and will be implemented to make a career in the Army more attractive. However, prior to undertaking these changes some research-founded ideas as to what job or career characteristics are viewed as important would be beneficial so that changes could be directed to the more important areas. Thus, the first purpose of the present study was to gather information on the importance that USMA graduates attach to various job characteristics. A second purpose was to see if Maslow's need structure offers a useful theoretical basis for interpreting the graduates' need structure insofar as their jobs are concerned. A mailed 31-item questionnaire that dealt with the importance of various job characteristics was used to gather the data. (Author)
