Odontogenic tumours. A series of 409 cases

Abstract: Reports on the incidence of odontogenic tumours are infrequent with only a limited number of series having appeared in the literature. In this paper, the results of a multicentre retrospective study on the histologic types and relative frequencies of odontogenic tumours in Turkey are presented. The results indicated that the most frequent histologic type was ameloblastoma (36.5 per cent) and the area at greatest risk for the development of odontogenic tumours was the mandibular molar region. A Table showing the most likely type of tumour by location is also presented.

Flexible Endoscopes: Ophthalmoendoscopic Techniques and Case Reports

Abstract: • We successfully used three types of flexible ophthalmoendoscopes for the surgical treatment of various abnormalities in the posterior ocular segments. All 23 patients had opacification of the cornea and lens, which made it difficult or even impossible to perform intravitreal surgery on the "closed" eye. All operations were performed through the pars plana. No complications were noted.

Flexible endoscope for intraocular surgery

Abstract: • We describe the technical characteristics of three types of flexible ophthalmoendoscopes used for direct visual examination and for taking photographs of intraocular structures. The designs of these instruments can be used as a basis for the development of new models of thin ophthalmoendoscopes.

Improved Miesowicz viscometer

Abstract: The main features of the Miesowicz torsionai viscometer with automatized detection of the plate movement are described. An application of the viscometer to study the anisotropy of viscosity in nematic mixtures RALLE5 and WARSAW4 is shown as an example.

Properties of adhesive polymer compositions in ageing conditions

Abstract: In our work the degradative changes in properties of polyurethane adhesives based on aliphatic isocyanates were defined and compared with similar changes occurring when using aromatic isocyanates. The readily observed PUR adhesive discolouration in situations of its contact with leather does imply the necessity for the establishing the real proportions of the polyurethane constituents responsible for this ever-present problem. The structure-property relationship of hydroxylterminated polyester-based segmented aliphatic polyurethanes, as a component in adhesive composition were studied using wide angle X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (WAXD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) as well as attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The results show that crystalline phase in segmented PUR component influence on morphological and structural properties in degradative conditions.

Values of certain biochemical parameters in mouse serum after syngeneic bone marrow transplantation. Effect of various methods of myeloablation-immunosuppression preparation and recipient's age.

Abstract: In the mouse experimental model the effect of two different methods of myeloablation-immunosuppression treatment administered as preparation for bone marrow transplantation was studied, also the effect of animal's age on the values of the essential biochemical parameters in the serum and on the body weight of the animals was assessed. The recipients were prepared for the transplantation with total-body irradiation and administration of cyclophosphamide (radio-chemotherapy) or administration of busulphan with cyclophosphamide (combined chemotherapy). Transplantation was done in animals aged 2.5 and 12 months. In all studied animals serum protein and calcium levels were decreased after the transplantation and the uric acid level was transiently raised. In the older mice a short lasting increase in the serum levels of bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, AST and ALT was noted. However, no changes were found in the results biochemical investigations which could have been related to the method of myeloablation and immunosuppression, apart from slight hypercholesterolaemia which developed about 30 days after the operation in mice prepared by radio-chemotherapy. However, after a year lower body weight was observed in young mice prepared for the procedure with radiation exposure and cyclophosphamide, as compared to those receiving combined chemotherapy. Clinical aspects of these disturbances are discussed.
