Abstract: Fielded surface detection systems rely on contact with either the liquid contamination itself or the associated chemical vapor above the contaminated surface and do not provide a standoff or remote detection capability. Conversely, standoff chemical vapor sensing techniques have not shown efficacy in detecting those contaminants as liquids or solids on surfaces. There are a number of optical or spectroscopic techniques that could be applied to this problem of standoff chemical detection on surfaces. The three techniques that have received the most interest and development are laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), fluorescence, and Raman spectroscopy. Details will be presented on the development of these techniques and their applicability to detecting CBRNE contamination on surfaces.

Abstract: Nanocrystalline -Zr condensates deposited by ion beam sputtering on the NaCl (1 0 0) surfaces and then annealed at 100–750 ◦ C in air. The phases present were identified by transmission electron microscopy to be nanometer-size -Zr + ZrO, -Zr + ZrO + c-ZrO2, c-ZrO2, c- + t-ZrO2, t-ZrO2, and t- + m-ZrO2 phase assemblages with increasing annealing temperature. The ZrO2 showed strong { 100 } preferred orientation due to parallel epitaxy with NaCl (1 0 0) when annealed between 150 and 500 ◦ C in air. The c- and t-ZrO2 condensates also showed (1 1 1)-specific coalescence among themselves. The c- and/or t-ZrO2 formation can be accounted for by the small grain size, the presence of low-valence Zr cation and the lateral constraint of the neighboring grains. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: Evaluation of engineering characteristics (ECs) according to customer requirements (CRs) is the most decisive step of the house of quality in quality function deployment (QFD) method. In most cases, high degrees of correlation between ECs exist and should be modelled. The paper develops a specific measure ('influence gap') and novel underlying procedure (smallest gap technique) for ECs evaluation aiming to capture all interdependencies. The influence gap enables to characterise each EC according to its distance from ideal-maximum influence on all requirements. The relationships between CRs and ECs and their inter-relationships are obtained using interval-valued fuzzy DEMATEL method. From the practical point of view, the most important information for decision maker(s) generated by the model is the clear insight about the contribution of each EC when launching a new product/service. Practicability and usability of the proposed methodology is illustrated over a specific transportation service. [Received: 6 January 2018; Accepted: 2 December 2018]

Abstract: Usability, ease of use and user experience (UX) are crucial quality concerns to develop any learning applications for children with autism. Several design considerations are proposed to design and develop different kinds of learning tools for autistic children but no study was found that explicitly focused to understand the design consideration required to design a tabletop learning tool for children with autism. Therefore, the objective of this research is to reveal the fundamental design considerations for developing a tabletop learning tool for autistic children with enhanced usability and UX. Two studies were conducted following ethnographic study and semi-structured interview, while the interviewing study was replicated with eighteen teachers of autistic children. The study data were analyzed through content analysis. As outcome, this research, firstly revealed a set of design considerations that includes, for example, affordance, intuitiveness, portability, ease-to-use, clear & concise interface, metaphoric design, easy to learn, interactive, visual feedback, multimodal feedback and pictography. Secondly, proposed a design solution to develop the tabletop learning tool based on the revealed design considerations.
