TL;DR: The depth of AGMLG should be taken into account when planning topical and surgical therapies for lesions derived or evolving from AGMLT, and alterations identical to columnar cell change may represent a normal variation of AG MLG.
Abstract: The normal histology of anogenital mammary-like glands (AGMLG) has been studied previously, but some aspects, including glandular depth, presence of columnar epithelium resembling columnar cell change/hyperplasia as defined in mammary pathology, and distribution of elastic fibers, have not been previously investigated. To address these issues, we studied 148 AGMLG identified in 133 paraffin blocks sampled from 64 vulvar wide excision or vulvectomy specimens (64 patients, various indications for surgery). The depth of AGMLG ranged from 0.64 to 3.9 mm. Epithelial columnar cell change was noted in 33.1% of all AGMLG, whereas columnar cell hyperplasia was detected in 10.1%. Occasionally, combinations of cuboidal epithelium and columnar cell change were seen within 1 histological section. Of 22 specimens stained for elastic fibers, in only 6 (27.3%) cases were elastic fibers found around glands. Periductal elastic fibers were demonstrated around 3 of the only 5 ducts, which were available for analysis in slides stained for elastic fibers. The depth of AGMLG should be taken into account when planning topical and surgical therapies for lesions derived or evolving from AGMLG. Alterations identical to columnar cell change may represent a normal variation of AGMLG.

TL;DR: A Markov chain-based survivability model is proposed for capturing the vulnerable critical system behaviors during the vulnerability elimination process and will enable the system survivability in terms of security risk and dependability, but also provide insights on the system investment decision.
Abstract: This paper aims to analyze transient security and dependability of a vulnerable critical system, under vulnerability-related attack and two reactive defense strategies, from a severe vulnerability announcement until the vulnerability is fully removed from the system. By severe, we mean that the vulnerability-based malware could cause significant damage to the infected system in terms of security and dependability while infecting more and more new vulnerable computer systems. We propose a Markov chain-based survivability model for capturing the vulnerable critical system behaviors during the vulnerability elimination process. A high-level formalism based on Stochastic Reward Nets is applied to automatically generate and solve the survivability model. Survivability metrics are defined to quantify system attributes. The proposed model and metrics not only enable us to quantitatively assess the system survivability in terms of security risk and dependability, but also provide insights on the system investment decision. Numerical experiments are constructed to study the impact of key parameters on system security, dependability and profit.

TL;DR: Ability to navigate in the wilderness benefits less from sense of direction (BDNF and Santa Barbara Sense of Direction) and more from episodic memory (KIBRA) in the first course and heightened ability to focus attention (CHRNA4) after experience in the 2nd course.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To better understand what influences interindividual differences in ability to navigate in the wilderness, we hypothesized that better performance would be seen in (a) BDNF (rs6265) Val/Val homozygotes increased use of a spatial strategy, (b) KIBRA rs17070145 T/T homozygotes superior episodic memory, (c) CHRNA4 (rs1044396) T allele carriers better ability to focus visuospatial attention. METHOD: Military cadets (n = 382) genotyped for BDNF, KIBRA, and CHRNA4 SNPs used a map and compass to navigate in unmarked woods. Participants completed a morning course within 3.0 km and an afternoon course within 7.0 km. RESULTS: Success or failure in finding each point was analyzed in a logistic regression model with KIBRA, BDNF, and CHRNA4 genotypes as fixed effects. For the morning course, the adjusted odds ratio for the effect of KIBRA T/T over KIBRA C/C was 2.58 (95% CI of 1.31, 5.06) demonstrating a statistical benefit of the KIBRA T/T genotype over individuals with KIBRA C/C genotype. BDNF did not have an independent association with navigational success. For the afternoon course, the adjusted odds ratio for the effect of CHRNA4 C/T over C/C was 1.67 (95% CI of 1.24, 2.25) demonstrating a statistical benefit of CHRNA4 T allele carriers over the C/C genotype. CONCLUSIONS: Ability to navigate in the wilderness benefits less from sense of direction (BDNF and Santa Barbara Sense of Direction) and more from episodic memory (KIBRA) in the first course and heightened ability to focus attention (CHRNA4) after experience in the 2nd course. TL;DR: The Accelerated Lithium Migration Technique (ALMT) is an electrochemical method to remove Na + and K + from concrete, and simultaneously drive Li + into concrete to inhibit alkali-silica reaction (ASR) as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The Accelerated Lithium Migration Technique (ALMT) is an electrochemical method to remove Na + and K + from concrete, and simultaneously drive Li + into concrete to inhibit alkali-silica reaction (ASR). This study investigates the relationship between the applied voltage and the migration behavior of cations related to ASR. The results show that after the completion of Na + and K + removal, migration of Li + begins to enter a steady state. With the increase in applied voltage, the removal rate and removable amount of alkalis increases, the required time of alkalis removal and the time for Li + to pass through the specimen decreases, and the migration coefficients of Li + increase. Furthermore, the above migration parameters of cations have positive linear relationships with the average current density. After the ALMT process, the average Li/(Na + K) molar ratio of the specimen is sufficiently large to mitigate ASR problems.
