TL;DR: A new robust control algorithm is introduced for uncertain systems with harmonic disturbances of unknown frequencies under the active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) framework and utilizes a specialized observer for sinusoidal uncertainties, aided with an on-line harmonic disturbance frequency estimator.

TL;DR: An original multi-criteria model based upon the IVFR approach is developed, taking into account the given assumptions, and the traditional MAIRCA (Multi-Attribute Ideal-Real Comparative Analysis) method was modified.
Abstract: This paper presents a new approach for the treatment of uncertainty and imprecision based on interval-valued fuzzy-rough numbers (IVFRNs). IVFRNs make decision making possible using only the internal knowledge from the data, using objective indeterminacy without the need to rely on models of assumption. By using IVFRN, instead of subjectively entering external uncertainties, the structure of the given data is used. Taking into account the given assumptions, an original multi-criteria model was developed based upon the IVFR approach. In the multi-criteria model the traditional MAIRCA (Multi-Attribute Ideal-Real Comparative Analysis) method was modified. Testing and validation of the model was carried out by means of a case study in which the selection of the optimal landing operations point for overcoming water obstacles was considered. A sensitivity analysis of the IVFRN MAIRCA model was carried out through 24 scenarios which showed a high degree of stability of the results.

TL;DR: The authors conducted a survey of engineering management programs in the U.S. to determine the causes for an apparent lack of accredited undergraduate and graduate EM programs despite significant growth in the number of EM programs over the last 30 years, and the potential for increased accreditation under revised accreditation criteria.
Abstract: This article presents the results of a 1999 nationwide survey of engineering management (EM) programs in the U.S. The study was conducted for EMJ in order to determine (1) the causes for an apparent lack of accredited undergraduate and graduate EM programs despite significant growth in the number of EM programs over the last 30 years, and (2) the potential for increased accreditation under the revised accreditation criteria. Data analysis suggests that a much higher value is placed on graduate versus undergraduate education. While most schools thought accreditation was important, accreditation was simply not a goal of most programs. Further, most schools thought the accreditation criteria were too restrictive.

TL;DR: It is found that L1J1 elicits a better anti-inflammatory efficacy after a single dose i.a administration in comparison with commercial product, VE-CP®, which is used topically.
Abstract: Recent research into the complex and varied components of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is leading to the development of more effective targets for pharmaceutical approach than even before. Current treatment of RA frequently includes the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Diclofenac sodium (DFNa) in spite of the severe adverse effects. Local application and incorporation of the drugs in liposome based formulations may reduce those side effects and improve the efficacy of drugs by reducing the availability of them in systemic circulation and increasing accumulation and retention time in the sites of inflammation. Herein, anti-inflammatory efficacy of the DFNa containing lipogelosome formulations (L1J1) was evaluated and found that L1J1 elicits a better anti-inflammatory efficacy after a single dose i.a administration in comparison with commercial product, VE-CP®, which is used topically. Histopathological examination of the opened joints showed that joints treated with L1J1, had significantly...

TL;DR: In this article, a nonlinear constitutive model for a single lamina is proposed for the failure analysis of composite laminates, where both fiber and matrix are assumed to behave as elastic-plastic and the in-plane shear is considered to behave nonlinearly with a variable shear parameter.
Abstract: A nonlinear constitutive model for a single lamina is proposed for the failure analysis of composite laminates. In the material model, both fiber and matrix are assumed to behave as elastic-plastic and the in-plane shear is assumed to behave nonlinearly with a variable shear parameter. The damage onset for individual lamina is detected by a mixed failure criterion, composed of the Tsai-Wu criterion and the maximum stress criterion. After damage takes place within the lamina, the fiber and in-plane shear are assumed to exhibit brittle behavior, and the matrix is assumed to exhibit degrading behavior. The proposed nonlinear constitutive model is tested against experimental data and good agreement is obtained. Then, numerical analyses are carried out to study the failure behavior of symmetric angle-ply composite laminates and symmetric cross-ply composite laminates subjected to biaxial loads. Finally, the conclusions obtained from the numerical analysis are given.
