TL;DR: The detection of RVF and RVG in this study provides important epidemiological data about the simultaneous circulation of rotaviruses affecting broiler flocks in the Amazon region of Brazil.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to detect rotavirus F (RVF) and rotavirus G (RVG) in fecal specimens of broiler chickens in Brazil. During 2008 and 2011, a total of 85 fecal samples were collected. The viral genome was extracted, followed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and nucleotide sequencing. Samples were screened for rotaviruses by PAGE, and RVF and RVG genome banding patterns were not seen. Using RT-PCR, it was found that 9.4 % (8/85) of the pools contained RVF, whereas 10.6 % (9/85) contained RVG. The predicted amino acid sequences of RVF and RVG from Brazilian samples were 94.4-95.7 % and 96.8-96.9 % identical, respectively, to those of prototypes from Germany. The detection of RVF and RVG in this study provides important epidemiological data about the simultaneous circulation of rotaviruses affecting broiler flocks in the Amazon region of Brazil.

IMPACTS OF IRRIGATION LEVELS AND SOIL COVER ON TOMATO CROP 2 ABSTRACT Water is an asset increasingly scarce and it has also a great influence on yield and quality of tomato crop, making its management a major factor to achieve higher profitability coupled with sustainability. The study aimed at evaluating the effects of irrigation depths (60%, 80%, 100%, 120% and 140% of ETc) and black polyethylene plastic as soil covering on yield, fruit quality and water use efficiency (WUE) in field tomato crop during the rainy season in Piracicaba, SP, Brazil. The experimental design was split plots randomly distributed into 2 x 5 factorial arrangement with four replications. No influence was observed of irrigation depths on total and marketable yield, mean weight and number of fruits per plant. The use of black polyethylene plastic as soil covering increased total and marketable yield, but decreased the content of fruit soluble solids. An increase of water use efficiency was observed by reducing water levels, and it was more pronounced when soil cover had been used. Keywords: Solanum lycopersicum, water level, water deficit, blossom-end rot, mulching.

TL;DR: In this article , the volumetric surface area rather than the ultrahigh specific surface area was used as a general predictor of specific capacitance in the low current density ranging from 0.50 to 10.00 A/g.
Abstract: Searching for good-natured feedstocks and understanding the texture property of porous carbon/specific capacitance relationships have long been highly desirable. Herein, hydrothermal and KOH were used to assist the synthesis of lignin-derived porous carbons (LPCs) with high specific surface area for supercapacitors. The as-synthesized LPC-150 and LPC-200 had a specific surface area of 3033.88 m2/g and 3178.36 m2/g, respectively, with a specific capacitance of 214.03 F/g and 201.69 F/g at 0.50 A/g. In the range from 2448 m2/g to 3178 m2/g, increasing the specific surface area again possesses no remarkable effect on the specific capacitance. Meanwhile, the specific surface area and the pore-wall thickness together determine the specific capacitance. When using a three-electrode configuration with a 6 mol/L KOH electrolyte, the volumetric surface area rather than the ultrahigh specific surface area can be employed as a general predictor of specific capacitance in the low current density ranging from 0.50 to 10.00 A/g.
