TL;DR: In this article, the two-way array interaction model with one observation per cell is discussed and the model is given by Likelihood ratio tests are presented for two hypotheses: (1) no interaction (λ = 0) and (2) equality of treatments (τ1 = τ2 = … = τt).
Abstract: In this article the two-way array interaction model with one observation per cell is discussed. The model is given by Likelihood ratio tests are presented for two hypotheses: (1) no interaction (λ = 0) and (2) equality of treatments (τ1 = τ2 = … = τt). Also maximum likelihood estimators are given for all parameters including σ2 when λ ≠ 0.

TL;DR: The retrospection results indicated that both low- and high-knowledge writers intermixed planning, translating, and reviewing during all phases of composing, and the secondary task results showed that the degree of cognitive effort devoted to planning, translate, and review depended on the task.
Abstract: Conditions of low and high knowledge about the topic of a writing task were compared in terms of the time and cognitive effort allocated to writing processes These processes were planning ideas, translating ideas into text, and reviewing ideas and text during document composition Directed retrospection provided estimates of the time devoted to each process, and secondary task reaction times indexed the cognitive effort expended Topic knowledge was manipulated by selecting subjects in Experiment 1 and by selecting topics in Experiment 2 The retrospection results indicated that both low- and high-knowledge writers intermixed planning, translating, and reviewing during all phases of composing There was no evidence that low- and high-knowledge writers adopt different strategies for allocating processing time About 50% of writing time was devoted to translating throughout composition From early to later phases of composing, the percentage of time devoted to planning decreased and that devoted to reviewing increased The secondary task results showed that the degree of cognitive effort devoted to planning, translating, and reviewing depended on the task Also, the high-knowledge writers expended less effort overall than did the low-knowledge writers; there was no difference in allocation strategy across planning, translating, and reviewing

12 Oct 2003TL;DR: A new voltage balancing control for the diode-clamped multilevel rectifier/inverter system that regulates the DC bus voltage, balances the capacitors, and decreases the harmonic components of the voltage and current is presented.
Abstract: This paper presents a new voltage balancing control for the diode-clamped multilevel rectifier/inverter system. A complete analysis of the voltage balance theory for a 5-level back-to-back system is given. The analysis is based on fundamental frequency switching control and then extended to pulse-width modulation. The method involves obtaining optimal switching angles; a process which is described in detail in this paper. The proposed control strategy regulates the DC bus voltage, balances the capacitors, and decreases the harmonic components of the voltage and current. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the validity of the optimizing method and control theory.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Navier-Stokes equations and the energy equation governing the flow and thermal fields are reduced to a dimensionless form by appropriate transformations and the resulting system of ordinary differential equations is solved in the buoyancy assisting and opposing regions.
Abstract: Laminar mixed convection in two-dimensional stagnation flows around heated surfaces is analyzed for both cases of an arbitrary wall temperature and arbitrary surface heat flux variations. The two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and the energy equation governing the flow and thermal fields are reduced to a dimensionless form by appropriate transformations and the resulting system of ordinary differential equations is solved in the buoyancy assisting and opposing regions. Numerical results are obtained for the special cases for which locally similar solutions exist as a function of the buoyancy parameter. Local wall shear stress and heat transfer rates as well as velocity and temperature distributions are presented. It is found that the local Nusselt number and wall shear stress increase as the value of the buoyancy parameter increases in the buoyancy assisting flow region. A reverse flow region develops in the buoyancy opposing flow region, and dual solutions are found to exist in that flow regime for a certain range of the buoyancy parameter.

TL;DR: Topological surface states, a new kind of electronic state of matter, have recently been observed on the cleaved surfaces of crystals of a handful of small band gap semiconductors as discussed by the authors, and the underlying chemical factors that enable these states are crystal symmetry, the presence of strong spinorbit coupling, and an inversion of the energies of the bulk electronic states that normally contribute to the valence and conduction bands.
Abstract: Topological surface states, a new kind of electronic state of matter, have recently been observed on the cleaved surfaces of crystals of a handful of small band gap semiconductors. The underlying chemical factors that enable these states are crystal symmetry, the presence of strong spin–orbit coupling, and an inversion of the energies of the bulk electronic states that normally contribute to the valence and conduction bands. The goals of this review are to briefly introduce the physics of topological insulators to a chemical audience and to describe the chemistry, defect chemistry, and crystal structures of the compounds in this emergent field.
