TL;DR: The results suggest an endogenous nature of the circadian rhythm of the SCN within the hypothalamic island, which may have not only an inherent ability to generate a circadian rhythm, but also an intricate machinery to regulate its phase.
Abstract: The nature of the circadian rhythms of the SCN in a hypothalamic island was examined in male rats by recording multiple unit activity from the SCN for longer durations. Successful continuous recording lasted up to 35 days. Neural activity of the SCN inside the island showed free-running rhythms whose periods were slightly longer than 24 h (Figs. 2, 3, Table 1). When the retino-hypothalamic pathway was spared, re-entrainment to a displaced light and dark cycle was attained following a transition period of a few days (Fig. 4). Phases of the rhythms shifted in a phase-dependent manner in response to single light pulses interrupting constant darkness (Fig. 5 and Fig. 6). These results suggest an endogenous nature of the circadian rhythm of the SCN within the hypothalamic island. Thus, neurons or neuronal networks in the SCN may have not only an inherent ability to generate a circadian rhythm, but also an intricate machinery to regulate its phase. Simultaneous recordings from the left and right SCN showed a slight but visible discrepancy in their phases between the two rhythms in 3 out of 12 cases (Fig. 7).

TL;DR: Among 12 strains of Chlorella ellipsoidea, C. vulgaris, and C. saccharophila tested, 4 strains formed osmotically labile protoplasts after treatment with mixtures of polysaccharide degrading enzymes, indicating the chemical composition of the cell wall would be somewhat different from that of other types.
Abstract: Among 12 strains ofChlorella ellipsoidea, C. vulgaris, andC. saccharophila tested, 4 strains (1,C. ellpsoidea; 2,C. vulgaris; 1,C. saccharophila) formed osmotically labile protoplasts after treatment with mixtures of polysaccharide degrading enzymes. The relationship between enzymatical digestibility and structure or composition ofChlorella cell walls were studied by electron microscopy and staining techniques with some specific dyes. The cell wall structures of the 12Chlorella strains were grouped into three types: (1) with a trilaminar outer layer, (2) with a thin outer monolayer, and (3) without an outer layer. Protoplasts were formed only from the strains with a cell wall of Type 2. In the strains with a cell wall of Type 1, the outer layer protected the inner major microfibrillar layer against enzymatic digestion. The cell wall of Type 3 was totally resistant to the enzymes; the chemical composition of the cell wall would be somewhat different from that of other types.

TL;DR: The design method which minimizes the phase error on the aperture of the linear array antenna has been shown and makes it possible to design small and low-loss Rotman lens antennas.
Abstract: A Rotman lens is used to feed a linear array antenna for wideband use. A relationship between design parameters for realizing a Rotman lens has been derived by introducing a new design variable. The design method which minimizes the phase error on the aperture of the linear array antenna has been shown. For large array length, the above phase error due to this method becomes considerably smaller than that due to a conventional method. This improved method makes it possible to design small and low-loss Rotman lens antennas.

Abstract: An antimony-containing tin oxide wherein the content of antimony is 0.1 to 20% by weight is almost white and excels in electric conductivity. By mixing a powder of this antimony-containing tin oxide of a particle size of 0.4 μm or less with a binder resin in a specific ratio, an antistatic coating composition can be obtained. By applying this coating on nonconductive base materials such as electronic/electrical parts and building members, an antistatic effect can be imparted to these base materials without impairing their color tones.

Abstract: A silicon oxide film is formed as an under film on a glass substrate and then an amorphous silicon film is formed thereon. Using hydrogen plasma produced by a frequency of 50 to 100 MHz, the amorphous silicon film formed on the glass substrate is processed. In this plasma processing, hydrogen atoms in the amorphous silicon film is combined with hydrogen atoms in the plasma with a high energy state, so that a gas is generated and the dehydrogenation from the amorphous silicon film progresses. After the dehydrogenation is completed, the heating treatment is performed to crystallize the amorphous silicon film and to transform the amorphous silicon film into a crystalline silicon film.

TL;DR: In this paper, an air cooling temperature control system for use in vehicles including a cooler having a compressor, a heater having an air-mix damper and a room air temperature regulator is presented.
Abstract: An air cooling temperature control system for use in vehicles including a cooler having a compressor, a heater having an air-mix damper and a room air temperature regulator, in which feedback control is effected so that a room air temperature may coincide with a preset temperature value. The output of the heater is regulated to respond to sudden changes in the room air temperature by controlling the opening of the air-mix damper. The duty cycle of the compressor is regulated by a controller so as to respond to gradual changes in room air temperature while the output of the heater is at a low level and to incrementally decrease the duty cycle of the compressor when the output of the heater is above the low level, thereby driving the output of the heater down so as to minimize the counteracting effects of concurrent heating and cooling, so that the desired room air temperature is maintained with minimal energy.
