TL;DR: In this article, the strength characteristics of adhesive/rivet combined lap joints were investigated, and the results indicated that the fatigue strength of adhesive joints can be improved through combination with rivets of nearly equal or slightly higher fatigue strength than the adhesive joint.
Abstract: Adbesive/rivet combined bonding has attracted special interest recently as a joining technique of highstrength steel because of its high joint efficiency. In the present study, the strength characteristics of adhesive/rivet combined lap joints were investigated. To darify bonding conditions capable of improving the fatigue strength of combined joints, fatigue tests were conducted on the rivet, adhesive and adhesive/rivet combined joints with different lap widths, adhesive and rivet strengths. Furthermore, to compare fatigue crack initiation and propagation behavior of the adhesive joint with that of the combined joint, the strain changes were measured by strain gauges bonded onto the adherend plate near the lap end. The results indicate that the fatigue strength of adhesive joints can be improved through combination with rivets of nearly equal or slightly higher fatigue strength than the adhesive joint. Furthermore, we also confirmed that fatigue cracks propagate more gradually in combined joints...

05 Jul 1996TL;DR: In this article, a drive circuit is composed of a 1st drive means 12 which drives an IGBT device 1, a 2nd drive means 13 which drives the IGBT devices at a speed slower than the speed of the 1st drives means 12, a switching means 11 by which the output of the first drive circuit 12 and the output from the second drive circuit 13 are switched from one to the other, and a current decrease start point detecting means 14 which detects the time point when the current decrease starts in a transition period from a first period in which the collector current of the
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a drive circuit which facilitates both the suppression of a voltage surge and the reduction of a switching loss and, further, can be applied to all IGBT(insulated gate self-extinguishing type) devices. SOLUTION: A drive circuit is composed of a 1st drive means 12 which drives an IGBT device 1, a 2nd drive means 13 which drives the IGBT device at a speed slower than the speed of the 1st drive means 12, a switching means 11 by which the output of the 1st drive circuit 12 and the output of the 2nd drive circuit 13 are switched from one to the other and supplied to the gate of the IGBT device 1 and a current decrease start point detecting means 14 which detects the time point when the current decrease starts in a transition period from a 1st period in which the collector current of the IGBT device changes gradually to a 2nd period which follows the 1st period and in which the collector current changes sharply when the IGBT device 1 is turned off. The switching means 11 is operated by the output of the current decrease start point detecting means 14 so as to use the 1st drive means 12 in the 1st period and use the 2nd drive means 13 in the 2nd period. TL;DR: It is suggested that the volatile constituents of a rosemary extract had antioxidative properties and that gaseous exposure antioxidant is a promising method for promoting health.
Abstract: Rosemary is commonly used as a spice and a flavoring agent in food processing. Although the antioxidative properties of its extracts have been investigated, there have been few reports on the volatile components of rosemary. We designed a novel antioxidative system which can generate the volatile constituents in the gaseous phase from a rosemary extract and evaluated the gaseous antioxidative activities against both lipid peroxidation and cell death induced by nitrogen dioxide and ultraviolet radiation. The antioxidative effects of the major volatile components on the oxidation of linoleic acid induced by azo compounds were also investigated in a solution. The volatile components in the novel antioxidative system suppressed the Jurkat cell death induced by nitrogen dioxide and the intracellular formation of reactive oxygen species in fibroblast cells induced by ultraviolet radiation. 1,8-Cineole among the volatile components exerted an antioxidative effect against the oxidation of linoleic acid in a solution induced by azo compounds and ultraviolet radiation. These data suggest that the volatile constituents of a rosemary extract had antioxidative properties and that gaseous exposure antioxidant is a promising method for promoting health.

10 May 2007TL;DR: In this paper, a projection display with a simple structure and without deterioration of lifetime due to the heat of the light from a light source is presented, which offers improved contrast while smoothly controlling the amount of light.
Abstract: A projection display apparatus is provided which offers improved contrast while smoothly controlling the amount of light, with a simple structure and without deterioration of lifetime due to the heat of the light from a light source This projection display apparatus includes a light valve, a light source for emitting light to the light valve, an integrator lens disposed on the optical path of the light propagating from the light source to the light valve, for making uniform the illuminance distribution of the light from the light source, and a shutter mechanism disposed on the light path, for controlling the amount of light that illuminates the light valve The shutter mechanism has a pair of light-blocking members having cuts formed in their respective protruding sides to regulate the passage of light, and the pair of light-blocking members are moved straight to protrude/retract on the optical path, perpendicularly to the optical path from both sides of the optical path, so as to control the amount of the light according to the extent of their protrusion on the optical path
