TL;DR: In this article, the anode and cathode potentials in a single cell with twenty-four reference electrodes located around anode or the cathode were studied under starving conditions for either air or fuel.
Abstract: The changes in the anode and cathode potentials in the horizontal plane of a phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) under starving conditions for either air or fuel were studied using a single cell furnished with twenty-four reference electrodes which were located around the anode or the cathode. When air starvation occurred, both the anode and cathode potentials became nearly 0 V against RHE, and hydrogen generation began to occur on the cathode side. Fuel starvation occurred when fuel utilization became more than 95%, and the cathode potential in the fuel outlet area shifted significantly toward the positive and, simultaneously, CO and CO2 were detected in the air exhaust gas, indicating the occurrence of carbon corrosion of the cathode components. By further increasing the fuel utilization, the cell voltage changed to negative and the anode potential in the fuel outlet area became the highest. At that time, significant amounts of CO and CO2 were detected in the fuel exhaust gas, indicating the occurrence of carbon corrosion of the anode components. Immediately after the termination of fuel starvation, the cathode potential in the fuel outlet area shifted quickly and remarkably toward the positive, and exceeded 1 V against RHE in a few seconds.

07 Oct 2001TL;DR: This paper proposes models that estimate the distortion for coded frames as well as non-coded frames to formulate a rate control problem that trades-off spatial and temporal quality.
Abstract: The general problem of optimized video encoding has received a great deal of attention in recent years. This paper focuses on the optimization of video coding with frameskip. We propose models that estimate the distortion for coded frames as well as non-coded frames. Using these models in conjunction with well-know models that estimate the rate allows us to formulate a rate control problem that trades-off spatial and temporal quality. Simulation results indicate moderate improvements for low motion test sequences.

06 Mar 2013TL;DR: In this paper, a three-sided sectional shape obtained by cutting along a vertical direction relative to a center axis line of a shaft at least in a portion away from respective end portions of stator coils, and an apex oriented toward a cooling fan was proposed.
Abstract: In an alternator for a vehicle according to the present invention, each of rear-side ribs defining each of rear-side exhaust holes includes a projecting portion that has a three-sided sectional shape obtained by cutting along a vertical direction relative to a center axis line of a shaft at least in a portion away from respective end portions of stator coils, and has an apex oriented toward a cooling fan. The apex is oriented in a direction opposite to a rotating direction of the cooling fan. Therefore, the amount of air generated by the cooling fan is increased to improve cooling performance for a stator.

10 Sep 2003TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an authentication system with little load on a user upon authentication and having a high security, where a password of a character string consisting of a plurality of digits is stored in a server device.
Abstract: An authentication system causing little load on a user upon authentication and having a high security. A management section (107) of a server device (106) stores a password of a character string consisting of a plurality of digits. A random number generator (108) generates a random number for each digit of the password. A communication section (111) transmits a plurality of random numbers to a terminal device (101). A calculation section (109) calculates an authentication value used for authentication by using a random number and password symbol for each digit of the password. In the terminal device (101), a display section (102) displays a random number for each digit of the password. An input section supplies an input value for the random number of each digit of the password and transmits the input value of each digit via a communication section (105). A judgment section (110) of the server device (106) judges whether the authentication value coincides with the input value for each digit of the password, thereby performing user authentication.
