TL;DR: In this article, the limits under which stable thin aqueous wetting films can exist are examined in more detail and it is shown that there exists a lower limit to the pore size in which thin wetting film will occur and that this limiting size depends on the salinity of the brine.
Abstract: It has recently been noted that the diffuse electrical double layers which exist at the oil/ brine and the mineral/brine interfaces in sandstone reservoirs will in many cases be quite similar with respect to electric charge and potential. Extremely thin aqueous wetting films separating such interfaces are thus stabilized by the electrostatic repulsive force acting between the double layers. In the present paper the limits under which stable thin films can exist are examined in more detail. It is shown that there exists a lower limit to the pore size in which thin wetting films will occur and that this limiting size depends on the salinity of the brine. It is also shown that whether this limiting pore size becomes a factor in determining the wettability of the rock/brine/oil system depends on the pore size distribution curve and on the initial brine saturation of the rock. Geological factors which may come into play in establishing the initial water saturation in a given case are discussed.

Abstract: A method for the recovery of viscous oil from subterranean formations including tar sands by the injection of a mixture of carbon dioxide and steam into the formation through an injection well, after which formation fluids are recovered from the well in a cyclic manner, using the well alternately for injection and production. Incremental recovery is optimized by maintaining the ratio of carbon dioxide to steam within the range 200 to 300, preferably 230 to 270 SCF carbon dioxide per barrel of steam (with water equivalent) in the injected mixture.

19 Oct 1988TL;DR: In this paper, a continuous roll or stack of thermoplastic bags having improved openability is disclosed, where the bags feature an area of permanently tacky, pressure-sensitive adhesive, applied to an outer surface of each bag.
Abstract: A continuous roll or stack of thermoplastic bags having improved openability is disclosed. The bags feature an area of permanently tacky, pressure-sensitive adhesive, applied to an outer surface of each bag. When a bag is pulled from the roll or stack, the adhesive temporarily adheres one side of the bag to the roll or stack, causing the front and back of the bag to separate slightly, thereby enhancing openability. Also disclosed are thermoplastic bags onto the surface of which an area of adhesive is applied in such a manner that the bags are self-closing when twisted shut in the area of the adhesive.
