TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that there will be fuel deficits for whatever time interval declining volumes of hydrocarbon reserves are not compensated for by increased supply from new energy sources such as nuclear, solar, and geothermal.
Abstract: Fossil fuels, amassed over eons of geologic prehistory, are being irreversibly depleted about 106 times more rapidly than they were formed. With this sort of kinetics, there is little question that there exists, in the ultimate sense, an energy crisis [1–3]. That is, there will be fuel deficits for whatever time interval declining volumes of hydrocarbon reserves are not compensated for by increased supply from new energy sources such as nuclear, solar, and geothermal. In the interim period, the petroleum refiner is forced to utilize higher molecular weight, more hydrogen-deficient crudes, and crude fractions which have higher concentrations of impurities. Eventually, substantial quantities of “synthetic crudes” derived from coal, oil shale, tar sands, and bitumens may also become available.

29 Jul 1993TL;DR: In this paper, a plastic reclosable fastener with a slider for opening and closing the fastener on plastic-film bags and the like has been described, which includes a provision for restraining the slider in closed position and keeping the male and female elements of the fasteners in interlocking relation.
Abstract: A plastic reclosable fastener with slider for opening and closing the reclosable fastener on plastic-film bags and the like is disclosed. The plastic reclosable fastener and slider include a provision for restraining the slider in closed position and thereby maintaining the male and female elements of the fastener in interlocking relation to avoid inadvertent opening of the elements of the fastener when the slider reaches the fully closed position at the end of its travel along the fastener. The ends of the flanges of the fastener that are created by the slider-restraining notch are provided with diverging structure to facilitate re-entry of the slider separator structure between the flanges when the slider is moved toward the opposite end of the fastener to open the male and female elements of the fastener.

TL;DR: In this article, pressure and velocity detectors are combined to substantially cancel ghost reflections, which are filtered so that the impulse response of the rarefaction waves cancels, resulting in an output in which the ghost reflection is substantially suppressed.
Abstract: Pressure and velocity detectors produce outputs which are combined to substantially cancel ghost reflections. The pressure detector produces a positive output in response to upwardly travelling compressional waves and a negative output in response to downwardly travelling rarefaction waves. The velocity detector for this is a positive output in response to upwardly travelling compressional waves and a positive output in response to downwardly travelling rarefaction waves. These outputs are filtered so that the impulse response of the rarefaction waves cancels. The filtered outputs are combined to produce an output in which the ghost reflection is substantially suppressed.
