TL;DR: A novel sensor chip for SPR biosensors based on graphene-oxide linking layers based on a graphene oxide film containing streptavidin has three times higher sensitivity than the carboxymethylated dextran surface of a commercial sensor chip.
Abstract: The development of sensing interfaces can significantly improve the performance of biological sensors. Graphene oxide provides a remarkable immobilization platform for surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors due to its excellent optical and biochemical properties. Here, we describe a novel sensor chip for SPR biosensors based on graphene-oxide linking layers. The biosensing assay model was based on a graphene oxide film containing streptavidin. The proposed sensor chip has three times higher sensitivity than the carboxymethylated dextran surface of a commercial sensor chip. Moreover, the demonstrated sensor chips are bioselective with more than 25 times reduced binding for nonspecific interaction and can be used multiple times. We consider the results presented here of importance for any future applications of highly sensitive SPR biosensing.

TL;DR: It is found that suspended graphene is in the conducting phase with unbroken chiral symmetry, which suggests that fluctuations of chirality and nonperturbative effects might still be quite important.
Abstract: We report on the results of the first-principles numerical study of spontaneous breaking of chiral (sublattice) symmetry in suspended monolayer graphene due to electrostatic interaction, which takes into account the screening of Coulomb potential by electrons on $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ orbitals. In contrast to the results of previous numerical simulations with unscreened potential, we find that suspended graphene is in the conducting phase with unbroken chiral symmetry. This finding is in agreement with recent experimental results by the Manchester group [D. C. Elias et al., Nat. Phys. 7, 701 (2011); A. S. Mayorov et al., Nano Lett. 12, 4629 (2012)]. Further, by artificially increasing the interaction strength, we demonstrate that suspended graphene is quite close to the phase transition associated with spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking, which suggests that fluctuations of chirality and nonperturbative effects might still be quite important.

TL;DR: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first example of a chiral Brønsted acid catalyzed rearrangement of cyclopropylimines into enantioenriched 2,3-dihydropyrroles.
Abstract: A convenient one-pot asymmetric synthesis of 2,3-dihydropyrroles from in situ generated triflated triazoles and olefins is described that further expands the utility of azavinyl carbene chemistry and provides access to an important class of cyclic enamides. Mechanistic investigations support the involvement of triflated cyclopropylaldimine intermediates in the formation of 2,3-dihydropyrrole. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of a chiral Bronsted acid catalyzed rearrangement of cyclopropylimines into enantioenriched 2,3-dihydropyrroles.
