Abstract: To detect multiple objects of interest, the methods based on Hough transform use non-maxima supression or mode seeking in order to locate and to distinguish peaks in Hough images. Such postprocessing requires tuning of extra parameters and is often fragile, especially when objects of interest tend to be closely located. In the paper, we develop a new probabilistic framework that is in many ways related to Hough transform, sharing its simplicity and wide applicability. At the same time, the framework bypasses the problem of multiple peaks identification in Hough images, and permits detection of multiple objects without invoking nonmaximum suppression heuristics. As a result, the experiments demonstrate a significant improvement in detection accuracy both for the classical task of straight line detection and for a more modern category-level (pedestrian) detection problem.

Abstract: Nonlinear effects in hadronic interactions are treated by means of enhanced Pomeron diagrams, assuming that Pomeron-Pomeron coupling is dominated by soft partonic processes. It is shown that the approach allows to resolve a seeming contradiction between realistic parton momentum distributions, measured in deep inelastic scattering experiments, and the energy behavior of total proton-proton cross section. Also a general consistency with both soft and hard diffraction data is demonstrated. An important feature of the proposed scheme is that the contribution of semihard processes to the interaction eikonal contains a significant nonfactorizable part. On the other hand, the approach preserves the QCD factorization picture for inclusive high-${p}_{t}$ jet production.

Abstract: This paper characterizes performance measures satisfying a set of proposed axioms. We develop four new measures consistent with the axioms and show that they improve on the economic properties of the Sharpe Ratio and the Gain-Loss Ratio. In our treatment, the performance measures, or the indices of acceptability, are linked to positive expectations resulting from a stressed sampling of the cash flow distribution. Theoretically, it is shown that the level of acceptability varies directly with the amount of stress tolerated.In an empirical application, the performance measures are applied to cash flows generated by writing options on the SPX and the FTSE. This exercise reveals that acceptability levels are $U$-shaped in the strike direction.
