TL;DR: In this paper, the authors summarized various research works carried out so far in the area of laser cladding and surface alloying of different materials and their applications and reported the research outcomes of experimental and theoretical studies conducted to improve the process performance.
Abstract: Laser cladding and surface alloying are surface modification techniques employed to fabricate thin coating/layer with improved surface properties or to refurbish surface defects by forming highly resistant gradient coatings/layers on the substrate. High energy density and cooling rates make these techniques suitable to process a wide range of materials. In recent years, due to the development of high power lasers, improved controlling and delivery mechanisms have attracted extensive research in laser surface treatment. Researchers have analyzed various process factors to improve process performance. The experimental and theoretical studies show that the performance of laser cladding and surface alloying techniques can be enhanced significantly by the proper selection of input process parameters. This paper summarizes various research works carried out so far in the area of laser cladding and surface alloying of different materials and their applications. It reports the research outcomes of experimental and theoretical studies conducted to improve the process performance. A brief introduction of various laser surface treatment processes is also included. Besides these various problems, their solutions and trend for future works have also been discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study was conducted with the aim of discovering the factors which maximally discriminate between those employees who intend to leave the organization and those who intention to stay with the organization, and the primary motive was to find those factors which are strong predictors of intention to leave, so that employees who intention quitting are identified in advance, and remedial measures are taken to retain them, especially if they are key performers.
Abstract: Purpose – The study was conducted with the aim of discovering the factors which maximally discriminate between those employees who intend to leave the organization and those who intend to stay with the organization. The primary motive was to find those factors which are strong predictors of intention to stay, so that employees who intend quitting are identified in advance, and remedial measures are taken to retain them, especially if they are key performers.Design/methodology/approach – A questionnaire covering several aspects relating to employee retention was designed and distributed amongst a sample of 100 employees chosen through incidental sampling. Data thus collected was subjected to factor analysis, which yielded seven factors: Goal Clarity, Autonomy, Employee Engagement, Affective Commitment, Organizational Culture, Compensation and Benefits, and Normative Commitment. Discriminant analysis was done on these factors to identify the best predictors of employees' intention to leave or stay, by creat...

TL;DR: In this paper, a hybrid Taguchi method and response surface method (TMRSM) was proposed for multi-response optimization of a laser beam cutting process, where the Taguchi quality loss function was used to find the optimum level of input cutting parameters such as assist gas pressure, pulse width, pulse frequency and cutting speed.
Abstract: This paper presents a hybrid Taguchi method and response surface method (TMRSM) for the multi-response optimisation of a laser beam cutting process. The approach first uses the Taguchi quality loss function to find the optimum level of input cutting parameters such as assist gas pressure, pulse width, pulse frequency and cutting speed. The optimum input parameter values are further used as the central values in the response surface method to develop and optimise the second-order response model. The two quality characteristics Kerf width (KW), and material removal rate (MRR), that are of different nature (KW is of the smaller-the-better type, while MRR is of the higher the better type), have been selected for simultaneous optimisation. The results show considerable improvement in both the quality characteristics when the hybrid approach is used, as compared the results of a single approach.
