30 Sep 2008TL;DR: A texture-based method to spoof-proof a fingerprint biometric system using textural measures based on wavelet energy signatures and gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) features to characterize fingerprint texture is proposed.
Abstract: This paper proposes a texture-based method to spoof-proof a fingerprint biometric system. The fundamental basis of this anti-spoofing method is that, real fingerprint exhibits different textural characteristics from a spoof one. Textural measures based on wavelet energy signatures and gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) features are used to characterize fingerprint texture. Dimensionalities of the feature sets are reduced by running Pudilpsilas sequential forward floating selection (SFFS) algorithm. We test two feature sets independently on various classifiers like: AdaBoost.M1, support vector machine and OneR. Then, we fuse all the mentioned classifiers using the ldquoproduct rulerdquo to form a hybrid classifier. Classification rates achieved for wavelet energy signatures range from ~94.35% to ~96.71%. Likewise, classification rates for GLCM features range from ~94.82% to ~97.65%. Thus, the performance of a proposed method is very promising and it can be efficiently used to spoof-proof a real-time fingerprint biometric system.

Abstract: The present article attempts to examine fractional order Covid-19 model by employing an efficient and powerful analytical scheme termed as q-homotopy analysis Sumudu transform method (q-HASTM). The q-HASTM is the hybrid scheme based on q-HAM and Sumudu transform technique. Liouville-Caputo approach of the fractional operator has been employed. The proposed modelis also examined numerically via generalized Adams-Bashforth-Moulton method. We determined model equilibria and also give their stability analysis by employing next generation matrix and fractional Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion.

TL;DR: Similarity solutions for one-dimensional unsteady isothermal and adiabatic flows behind a strong exponential cylindrical shock wave propagating in a rotational axisymmetric dusty gas, which has variable azimuthal and axial fluid velocities were obtained in this article.
Abstract: Similarity solutions are obtained for one-dimensional unsteady isothermal and adiabatic flows behind a strong exponential cylindrical shock wave propagating in a rotational axisymmetric dusty gas, which has variable azimuthal and axial fluid velocities. The shock wave is driven by a piston moving with time according to an exponential law. Similarity solutions exist only when the surrounding medium is of constant density. The azimuthal and axial components of the fluid velocity in the ambient medium are assumed to obey exponential laws. The dusty gas is assumed to be a mixture of small solid particles and a perfect gas. To obtain some essential features of the shock propagation, small solid particles are considered as a pseudo-fluid; it is assumed that the equilibrium flow conditions are maintained in the flow field, and that the viscous stresses and heat conduction in the mixture are negligible. Solutions are obtained for the cases when the flow between the shock and the piston is either isothermal or adiabatic, by taking into account the components of the vorticity vector. It is found that the assumption of zero temperature gradient results in a profound change in the density distribution as compared to that for the adiabatic case. The effects of the variation of the mass concentration of solid particles in the mixture \(K_p\), and the ratio of the density of solid particles to the initial density of the gas \(G_a\) are investigated. A comparison between the solutions for the isothermal and adiabatic cases is also made.

TL;DR: A generalized frequency converter has been developed where undesirable harmonic components are minimized using nonsinusoidal carrier-based PWM, which is a trapezoidal pulsewidth modulation technique where the minimum total harmonic distortion in the output voltage is found to be 4.8%, while during cyclo-converter operation it is only 2%.
Abstract: Combining concept of cyclo-converter and cyclo-inverter, a generalized frequency converter has been developed where undesirable harmonic components are minimized using nonsinusoidal carrier-based PWM, which is a trapezoidal pulsewidth modulation technique. The study begins by establishing a model of frequency converter to obtain the firing sequence for cyclo-converter and cyclo-inverter mode of operation. The converter is simulated using the well-known software Matlab and simulations results are presented for a single-phase ac supply. It has been found that, for cyclo-inverter operation, the minimum total harmonic distortion in the output voltage is found to be 4.8%, while during cyclo-converter operation it is only 2%. Simulation results are validated with the experimental results. A prototype of frequency converter is developed where a field-programmable gate array is used to generate the PWM trigger signal through Xilinx 9.2i. The results are also compared with other existing carrier-based modulation techniques.
