Abstract: A method and user equipment in a carrier frequency to perform contention based random access. The method includes receiving an indication from a network entity whether a cell in the carrier frequency supports a 2-step random access procedure. When the 2-step random access procedure is supported in the cell, a random access procedure is selected between the 2-step random access procedure and a 4-step random access procedure, wherein each of the 2-step random access procedure and the 4-step random access procedure includes one or more preambles, which are configured in the cell to be associated with one of the 2-step random access procedure or the 4-step random access procedures. A preamble is randomly selected and transmitted from the one or more preambles which are associated with the selected random access procedure, wherein the 2-step random access procedure includes a physical random access channel carrying preamble and a physical random access channel carrying data, and the 4-step random access procedure includes the physical random access channel carrying preamble, and wherein a time-frequency resource for the physical random access channel carrying data in the 2-step random access procedure is determined, based on the transmitted preamble. The physical random access channel carrying data is transmitted including a demodulation reference signal and one or more data symbols on the determined time-frequency resource.

Abstract: Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed for communicating a short-duration uplink channel. One apparatus 400 includes a transceiver 425 that receives 1005 a downlink scheduling assignment message from a base unit 110, the scheduling message assigning resources for reception of a TB. The apparatus 400 includes a processor 405 that identifies 1010 a set of uplink resources in a slot and determines 1015 a first uplink resource from within the set. Here, selecting the first uplink resource is based on: a RB index of a first assigned FRU of the TB, a lowest CCE index of the scheduling message, a HARQ-ACK feedback delay, and/or a HARQ-ACK resource index/offset indicated in the scheduling message. Additionally, the transceiver 425 transmits 1020 a first uplink channel conveying at least HARQ-ACK feedback for the TB on the first uplink resource, wherein the first uplink channel comprises one or two symbols in the slot.

Abstract: In our work, we propose a novel formulation for supervised dimensionality reduction based on a nonlinear dependency criterion called Statistical Distance Correlation, (Szekely et al., 2007). We propose an objective which is free of distributional assumptions on regression variables and regression model assumptions. Our proposed formulation is based on learning a low-dimensional feature representation $\mathbf{z}$, which maximizes the squared sum of Distance Correlations between low-dimensional features $\mathbf{z}$ and response $y$, and also between features $\mathbf{z}$ and covariates $\mathbf{x}$. We propose a novel algorithm to optimize our proposed objective using the Generalized Minimization Maximization method of (Parizi et al., 2015). We show superior empirical results on multiple datasets proving the effectiveness of our proposed approach over several relevant state-of-the-art supervised dimensionality reduction methods.

One apparatus includes a processor and a transceiver for communicating with a mobile communication network using a plurality of radio bearers. The processor initiates a first random-access procedure for a first radio bearer. The processor receives a scheduling request trigger for a second radio bearer while the first random-access procedure remains pending. The processor determines whether simultaneous scheduling request transmission is permitted, wherein the transceiver transmits a first scheduling request message for the second radio bearer in response to simultaneous scheduling request transmission being permitted.

Abstract: A method for controlling echo of a voice recognition system includes receiving at least two audio input signals corresponding to sound sensed by at least two microphones in a physical space. A first audio input signal of the at least two audio input signals is received on a primary channel, and each remaining audio input signal is received through a respective secondary channel. The method includes selecting, by a processor, based on an echo power level of a speaker in the physical space, a subset of echo control functions (ECFs) from among a plurality of ECFs of a multistage echo control system. Each ECF modifies the at least two audio input signals to reduce echo. The method includes generating a corresponding number of audio output signals by processing the signals received on the primary and secondary channels through the selected subset of ECFs, and outputting the audio output signals.

A random access channel preamble of the plurality of random access channel preambles can be transmitted in a contention-free random access procedure. The random access channel preamble for transmission can be determined based on the selected reference signal.

An uplink grant corresponding to an uplink transmission can be received on the first CC. A first PHR reference TTI corresponding to the uplink transmission on the first CC can be determined. A first PHR for the first CC can be generated based on the first PHR reference TTI. A second PHR reference TTI on the second CC can be determined. A second PHR for the second CC can be generated based on the second PHR reference TTI. The first PHR and the second PHR can be transmitted in the uplink transmission.

Abstract: Network-coded (NC) automatic repeat request (ARQ) systems have been shown to provide significant throughput improvements over basic ARQ systems in multiuser wireless systems. These systems have been extended to NC hybrid-ARQ (HARQ) to show further enhancements in throughput by allowing receivers to use previous retransmissions. However, prior results were derived under the assumption of perfect ARQ feedback channels. In practical systems, feedback channels are not perfect, and therefore it is crucial to study the effect of noise in the ARQ feedback channels. In this paper, we consider the case of two-unicast flows and extend NC-HARQ to the case of imperfect ARQ feedback. Assuming binary symmetric feedback channels, we analyze the performance of these systems in terms of throughput, probability of packet loss, and average number of retransmissions. In the presence of feedback noise, our results show that significant throughput improvements over basic HARQ can still be obtained for a moderate-to-high signal-to-noise ratio with negligible increase in the probability of packet loss. We also present a new scheme that limits the number of NC packets to only one per data packet and show that for the two-unicast case the new scheme attains most of the throughput improvements of the original NC-HARQ scheme.

Abstract: For backlit face detection, an apparatus includes a main camera and an auxiliary camera that capture image data of photographic subject matter. The main camera and auxiliary camera are located on the same surface of the apparatus. The apparatus further includes a processor that increases an exposure level of the auxiliary camera to expose a dark region in response to the photographic subject matter being a backlit scene. Here settings the main camera are unaffected by increasing the exposure level of the auxiliary camera. The processor also searches for a face within the dark region using auxiliary image data captured with the increased exposure level. Additionally, the processor adjusts an exposure setting of the main camera based on face information received from the auxiliary camera in response to a face being present within the dark region.

The RACH slot can include the at least one RACH resource of the set of semi-statically configured RACH resources. An available RACH resource in the RACH slot can be determined based on the received indications. A RACH preamble can be transmitted on the available RACH resource in the RACH slot.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for generating a high dynamic range (HDR) image from a plurality of frames simultaneously captured by cameras of a portable device. The method includes detecting, by a main camera of the portable device, a current dynamic range level of a current scene. In response to detecting the current dynamic range level, a main camera exposure compensation value is applied to the main camera and an auxiliary camera exposure compensation value, which is different from the main camera exposure compensation value, is applied to at least one auxiliary camera. The method further includes simultaneously capturing a first frame by the main camera and at least one second frame by at least one auxiliary camera. The method further includes combining the first frame and the at least one second frame to create the HDR image.

The method remaps, for each pixel in the frame of image data, color values for a second color component and for a third color component based on the white point and controls the emissive display to present the frame of image data using the adjusted color value and the remapped color values. Each pixel of the emissive display includes a first subpixel that emits the first color component, a second subpixel that emits the second color component, and a third subpixel that emits the third color component.
