TL;DR: The accuracy of two FER prediction methods is studied: Packet error rate indicator (PER-indicator) and exponential effective SIR mapping (Exp-ESM) which are shown to have accuracy within a few tenths of a dB under a wide range of modulation schemes, coding rates and channel types.
Abstract: Multicarrier modulations such as OFDM with adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) are well suited for high data rate broadband systems that operate in multipath environments and are considered as promising candidates for future generation cellular systems (e.g., 4G). Cellular system performance is normally investigated with system level simulations that are computationally complex. For broadband multicarrier systems, incorporating a detailed physical layer emulator into the system simulator becomes impractical, so there is a need for simplified link performance predictors. However, due to the large variability of the channel in the frequency domain, two links with the same average SNR can experience drastically different performance, thus making it difficult to accurately predict the instantaneous link performance such as the frame error rate. In this paper, the accuracy of two FER prediction methods is studied: Packet error rate indicator (PER-indicator) and exponential effective SIR mapping (Exp-ESM). Both methods are shown to have accuracy within a few tenths of a dB under a wide range of modulation schemes, coding rates and channel types. These methods are then extended to handle more advanced link enhancements such as hybrid ARQ and Alamouti encoding. The Exp-ESM method has slightly better accuracy than the PER-indicator, and is the preferred link error predictor for a system simulator.

TL;DR: In this paper, a wireless telephone communication system (10) in which a portable unit (12) communicates with a base unit (11) over a wireless (radio) communication link (15) is described.
Abstract: A wireless telephone communication system (10) in which a portable unit (12) communicates with a base unit (11) over a wireless (radio) communication link (15). Access to a telephone network (15b) by the portable unit (12), via the base unit (11), is permitted when the base and portable units have corresponding ID codes stored therein. The base ID code is hardwired into the base unit (11), and the portable unit (12) learns its ID code from the base unit in response to mechanically coupling the base and portable units together via plug (28) and socket (45) assemblies. The base and portable units each have associated microprocessors (22 and 40) which implement the transfer of an ID code to the portable unit from the base unit via conductors (24'-42') which are part of the plug and socket assemblies. The plug and socket assemblies, when mated, also provide a connection between a battery charging supply circuit (25) in the base unit (11) and a battery (46) in the portable unit (12). Reset circuits (29 and 50) are provided in the base and portable units and control the resetting of the microprocessors (22 and 40).

TL;DR: In this article, the capacitance is inlaid in a cavity formed in the semiconductor substrate and part of a high density memory and a top electrode is then formed over the dielectric layer to isolate the bottom electrode from the top electrode preventing shorting and leakage currents.
Abstract: Method for forming a semiconductor device having an capacitor, where the capacitor is in-laid in a cavity formed in the semiconductor substrate and part of a high density memory. One embodiment first forms a bottom electrode in the cavity and then fills the cavity with a sacrificial layer to allow chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) of at least one of the capacitor electrodes. After removing portions of the bottom electrode and portions of the sacrificial layer, a dielectric layer is formed. A top electrode is then formed over the dielectric layer. The dielectric layer so formed isolates the bottom electrode from the top electrode preventing shorting and leakage currents. In one embodiment, a single top electrode layer is formed for multiple bottom electrodes, reducing the complexity of the memory circuit.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for circuit-switched and single-user traffic channel packet data communication in a cellular radiotelephone system, including a base station (10) and mobile data unit (5) are presented.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for circuit-switched and single-user traffic channel packet data communication in a cellular radiotelephone system, including a base station (10) and mobile data unit (5) both operable for establishing either a circuit-switched data call connection or a single-user connectionless packet data traffic channel via a radio channel (7), and communicating packet data over the established radio channel.

TL;DR: In this paper, a vehicle route planning system takes a trip origin location and a trip destination location provided by the driver then considers alternative routes, taken from a map (107), between the trip origin locations and trip destination locations.
Abstract: A vehicle route planning system takes a trip origin location and a trip destination location provided by the driver then considers alternative routes, taken from a map (107), between the trip origin location and trip destination location. Certain attributes, such as traffic congestion and concentration intensity, and driver preferences are considered in a fuzzy inferencing device for planning a preferred route.
