TL;DR: In this paper, the Snoek peak of carbon in Fe-Al alloys was investigated and a relaxation peak was found at 130°C at the frequency of about 1 cps in the region between 19.3 and 24.5 at.
Abstract: In order to investigate effects of ordering on the Snoek peak of carbon in Fe-Al alloys, internal friction measurements have been carried out on alloys containing 0 to 30.0 at. % Al and about 0.01 wt. % C. A relaxation peak was found to occur at 130°C at the frequency of about 1 cps in the region between 19.3 and 24.5 at. % Al after appropriate heat-treatments, and it was attributed to stress-induced diffusion of carbon in ordered Fe 3 Al lattice. Another peak occured at 160°C in the region between 25.1 and 30.0 at. % Al, but its origin was not so well clarified. A brief discussion is made concerning the relaxation mechanism of the 130°C-peak .

TL;DR: In this article, the proton magnetic resonance spectra of the three title carbanions have been observed in THF with potassium as a counter ion, and it was shown that the α-carbon in this carbanion is in the near-sp2 configuration.
Abstract: The proton magnetic resonance spectra of the three title carbanions have been observed in THF with potassium as a counter ion. The ortho-protons in the α-methylbenzyl carbanion are nonequivalent at room temperature. This shows that the α-carbon in this carbanion is in the near-sp2 configuration. The aromatic proton chemical shifts of the benzylpotassium obtained here are at higher shielding than those of benzyllithium reported previously by Sandel and Freedman. This seems to arise from the different ionic nature of the bonds between carbon and metal in the carbanions.

TL;DR: In this article, the intrinsic birefringence of uniaxially stretched polyvinyl alcohol is evaluated by simultaneous measurements of x-ray diffraction, visible dichroism and bireringence.
Abstract: The total birefringence of crystalline polymer for cylindrical symmetric orientation can be represented as follows; on the basis of simple additivity of the crystalline and non-crystalline contribution.The intrinsic birefringence of uniaxially stretched polyvinyl alcohol are evaluated by simultaneous measurements of x-ray diffraction, visible dichroism and birefringence.We transform the above equation to fallowing equation, and then, the slope and intercept on ordinate, we can evaluate the intrinsic birefringences of crystalline and non-crystalline phases, experimentally.On the other hand, by using of Lorentz-Lorenz's equation, we determine the ratio of the intrinsic birefringence of crystalline and non-crstalline phases, and moreover substitute the ratio into the additive equation of birefringence. The symplified equation can be represented as follows; where Δco is KΔao.This equation shows the linear relation of Δt against Δao, therefore we can determine the intrinsic birefringence of non-crystalline phase from the slope of the line.Employing above two methods in our experimental results, following results are reached.1) The average intrinsic birefringence of crystalline and non-crystalline phases are found as follows; Δco=51.8×10-3 Δao=43.8×10-32) The principal refractive indices of crystalline and non-crystalline phases are found as follows;

TL;DR: The chemical shifts of methylene protons were 4·63 to 5·25 ppm for monosubstituted 2-chloromethylthiophenes and 4·37 to 4·56 ppm with reference to TMS for 2,2′ -dithienylmethanes, which have one substituent in each ring.
Abstract: PMR spectra of thirty-eight chloromethylthiophene and seven dithienylmethane derivatives were observed at 60 or 40 MHz. The chemical shifts of methylene protons were 4·63 to 5·25 ppm for monosubstituted 2-chloromethylthiophenes and 4·37 to 4·56 ppm for monosubstituted 3-chloromethylthiophenes, respectively, with reference to TMS. Those for 2,2′ -dithienylmethanes, which have one substituent in each ring, were 4·12 to 4·34 ppm. These shifs are useful for determination of the positions of the methylene groups in the related compounds. The long-range coupling constants observed for methylene proton signals are also useful for the determination of the positions of substituents.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the orientation factor of PVA film from the data on x-ray diffraction, infrared dichroism, and birefringence.
Abstract: The evaluation of crystalline and non-crystalline orientation factors of PVA film from the data on x-ray diffraction, infrared dichroism, and birefringence is performed, and the following conclusion are obtained:(1) By using experimental result of the infrared dichroism and x-ray diffraction analyses, infrared transition moment angle of a crystalline absorption band can be determined quantitatively The crystalline orientation factor of a uniaxially stretched PVA can be determined quantitatively from infrared dichroism measurements. The transition moment angles Θj, to the crystalline chain axis for the 1141cm-1 band are 81°25′ and 83°25′ for samples annealed at 160°C and 90°C, respectively.(2) The non-crystalline orientation factor com be determined from infrared dichroism of the uniaxially stretched PVA films dyed with Congo Red, by compensating method using non-dyed films The infrared dichroic orientation factor Fam, (I. R) for the 755cm-1 band is in agreement with the non-crystalline orientation factor Fam, (Bir) calculated by assuming that the additivity of birefringence is valid.

TL;DR: A method for the determination of gold in biological materials such as serum, urine, synovial fluid and tissues was investigated in this paper, where gold was extracted from 6 M HCL into MIBK.
Abstract: A method for the determination of gold in biological materials such as serum, urine, synovial fluid and tissues was investigated. After the dry ashing of the samples, gold was extracted from 6 M HCL into MIBK. The amount of gold was determined directly in the organic phase by the atomic absorption spectrometry. The range of the working curve was from 0.1 to 5.0 μg and the accuracy and recovery of the present method were satisfactory for practical purposes.

Abstract: The orientation behaviors of crystalline and non-crystalline phases of uniaxially stretched PVA dyed with Congo Red, were observed by means of simultaneous measurements of X-ray diffraction, visible dichroic ratio and birefringence.The following results were obtained:1) The orientation behavior of crystallites in the dfferent degree of crystallinity of the polymers, such as higher crystallinity polymers, the preferential orientation of crystallites with stretching, especially at low degrees of stretching, were observed.2) For the stretched specimens at a released state, we could not recognize clearly the effect of crystallinity, through the measurementsof visible dichroic ratio.3) The decrease in crystallinity during the uniaxially stretching, were considerable in the higher degree specimens.4) As a result of the orientation evaluation of crystalline and non-crystalline phases, it was found that the rod floating model is available for the consideration of crystalline orientation behavior.

TL;DR: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the processes of classification task by means of the application of the information processing models by Gregg and Simon to the stochastic process models and found that subjects adopted consistently the strategy which made them select a hypothesis from the subset of hypotheses that are consistent with the last stimulus pattern.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the processes of classification task by means of the application of the information processing models by Gregg and Simon to the stochastic process models. The result was as follows; 1) Subjects adopted consistently the strategy which made them select a hypothesis from the subset of hypotheses that are consistent with the last stimulus pattern presented to them regardless of the number of attribute-dimensions. 2) As the number of dimensions increased, the deviations between observations and predictions of any models tended to be great in spite of the stationarity of the series of responses and the statistical independence of the intermediate responses.

TL;DR: In this article, a single crystal of Congo Red was prepared, and then the visible dichroism and/or the infrared spectra of the crystal were measured, by using these results, they determined the dichroisms of the characteristic absorption band.
Abstract: In the case of the orientation evaluation of non-crystalline region of the uni- and bi-axially stretched crystalline polymer, the evaluation of molecular orientation can be made by the measurement of the visible dichroism or the infrared dichroism. However, we have not obtained the information concerned with the dyed mechanism between the non-crystalline chain and the dye molecule. In order to explore the mechanism, a single crystal of Congo Red was prepared, and then the visible dichroism and/or the infrared spectra of the crystal were measured. By using these results, we determined the dichroism of the characteristic absorption band of the crystal.Finally, the birefringence, infrared diohroism, orientation factor of crystalline region and crystallinity were measured for the highly stretched PVA film in which large amount of the dye were dissolved.From the results, the angle between the non-crystalline chain and the dye molecule was determined on the basis of the additivity of birefringence.
