Abstract: An ordered mesh of palladium with a thickness of about 3 nm was synthesized by a solution-based oxidative etching. The ultrathin palladium nanomeshes have an interconnected two-dimensional network of densely arrayed, ultrathin quasi-nanoribbons that form ordered open holes. The unique mesoporous structure and high specific surface area make these ultrathin Pd nanomeshes display superior catalytic performance for ethanol electrooxidation (mass activity of 5.40 Am g-1 and specific activity of 7.09 mA cm-2 at 0.8 V vs. RHE). Furthermore, the regular mesh structure can be applied to support other noble metals, such as platinum, which exhibits extremely high hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity and durability.

Abstract: The authors investigated the effects of principal stress rotation (PSR) on the traffic load–induced settlement of subways in soft subsoil. Here, a series of hollow cylinder tests on normally consolidated, medium-plasticity soft clay with and without principal stress rotation were performed along with finite-element modeling and simulation. The results show significant increases in both excess pore-water pressure and cumulative deformation of the normally consolidated soft clay when PSR is present and simulated, and the effects become more pronounced as the maximum effective principal stress ratio or load frequency increases. Under the actual traffic load–induced stress in subsoil below the subway tunnel, the presence of PSR increases the cumulative deformation of soft clay by 9–23% compared with that without PSR. As an approximation, the cumulative deformation of soft clay with the effect of PSR can be estimated by multiplying the deformation derived from the repeated triaxial testing without PSR ...

Abstract: Selective reduction of supported CuO to Cu2O was realized using the strategy of vapor-induced reduction, in which HCHO/H2O vapor diffuses into the pores of the support and interacts with predispersed CuO. This new strategy allows the fabrication of supported cuprous sites at much lower temperatures within a short time, avoids the formation of Cu(0) with a Cu(I) yield of nearly 100%, and results in materials with good adsorption performance, which is impossible to achieve by conventional methods.
