TL;DR: The combination of CT and CAD reverse technology could accomplish the design and manufacturing of complex bone tissue engineering scaffolds, with no significant difference in the impacts of the microstructures towards the physical properties of different porous scaffolds under large load.
Abstract: The study aims to investigate the techniques of design and construction of CT 3D reconstructional data-based polycaprolactone (PCL)–hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffold. Femoral and lumbar spinal specimens of eight male New Zealand white rabbits were performed CT and laser scanning data-based 3D printing scaffold processing using PCL–HA powder. Each group was performed eight scaffolds. The CAD-based 3D printed porous cylindrical stents were 16 piece × 3 groups, including the orthogonal scaffold, the Pozi-hole scaffold and the triangular hole scaffold. The gross forms, fiber scaffold diameters and porosities of the scaffolds were measured, and the mechanical testing was performed towards eight pieces of the three kinds of cylindrical scaffolds, respectively. The loading force, deformation, maximum-affordable pressure and deformation value were recorded. The pore-connection rate of each scaffold was 100 % within each group, there was no significant difference in the gross parameters and micro-structural parameters of each scaffold when compared with the design values (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in the loading force, deformation and deformation value under the maximum-affordable pressure of the three different cylinder scaffolds when the load was above 320 N. The combination of CT and CAD reverse technology could accomplish the design and manufacturing of complex bone tissue engineering scaffolds, with no significant difference in the impacts of the microstructures towards the physical properties of different porous scaffolds under large load.

TL;DR: In this paper, Ni/Y2O3 catalysts were used to achieve CO2 activation and resistance to CO poisoning through careful selection of precursor for the support, which allows to control the strength of metal-support interaction.
Abstract: Y2O3 supported Ni catalysts were prepared from different Y precursors. The catalysts synthesized via Y4O(OH)9(NO3) and YO(NO3) as precursors exhibit superior activity in CO2 methanation reaction compared to the catalysts prepared by direct impregnation of Y2O3. YO(NO3) acts as a unique matrix to afford anchoring sites to interact with Ni2+ ions, leading to a moderate interaction between Ni metal and Y2O3 support, which translates into excellent catalytic activity and stability towards CO poisoning. In situ DRIFTS spectra confirm the reaction mechanism of Ni/Y2O3 catalyzed CO2 methanation with carbonates and formates as the key intermediates. The apparent difference in the rate of transformation of formates into methane determines catalytic activity of these Ni/Y2O3 catalysts. This work provides an effective strategy to achieve CO2 activation and resistance to CO poisoning through careful selection of precursor for the support, which allows to control the strength of metal-support interaction.

TL;DR: The superior capacitance stability demonstrates that the design of wrinkled CNTs-based electrodes fixed by microstructures is beneficial to the excellent electrochemical performance.
Abstract: Flexible devices integrated with sensing and energy storage functions are highly desirable due to their potential application in wearable electronics and human motion detection. Here, a flexible film is designed in a facile and low-cost leaf templating process, comprising wrinkled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as the conductive layer and patterned polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with bio-inspired microstructure as a soft substrate. Assembled from wrinkled CNTs on patterned PDMS film, a strain sensor is realized to possess sensitive resistance response against various deformations, producing a resistance response of 0.34%, 0.14%, and 9.1% under bending, pressing, and 20% strain, respectively. Besides, the strain sensor can reach a resistance response of 3.01 when stretched to 44%. Furthermore, through the electro-deposition of polyaniline, the CNTs film is developed into a supercapacitor, which exhibits a specific capacitance of 176 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and a capacitance retention of 88% after 10 000 cycles. In addition, the fabricated supercapacitor shows super flexibility, delivering a capacitance retention of 98% after 180° bending for 100 cycles, 95% after 45° twisting for 100 cycles, and 98% after 100% stretching for 400 cycles. The superior capacitance stability demonstrates that the design of wrinkled CNTs-based electrodes fixed by microstructures is beneficial to the excellent electrochemical performance.

TL;DR: The ensemble of polyoxometalates and cyclodextrins as molecular building blocks asMBBs has yielded two unprecedented POM-CD-MOFs, namely [PW12O40]3- and α-CD MOF (POT-CD) as well as [P10Pd15.5O50]19- and γ-CDMOF (pOP-CD), with distinct properties not shared by their isolated parent MBBs.
Abstract: Self-assembly allows structures to organize themselves into regular patterns by using local forces to find the lowest-energy configuration. However, assembling organic and inorganic building blocks in an ordered framework remains challenging due to difficulties in rationally interfacing two dissimilar materials. Herein, the ensemble of polyoxometalates (POMs) and cyclodextrins (CDs) as molecular building blocks (MBBs) has yielded two unprecedented POM-CD-MOFs, namely [PW12O40]3– and α-CD MOF (POT-CD) as well as [P10Pd15.5O50]19– and γ-CD MOF (POP-CD), with distinct properties not shared by their isolated parent MBBs. Markedly, the POT-CD features a nontraditional enhanced Li storage behavior by virtue of a unique “amorphization and pulverization” process. This opens the door to a new generation of hybrid materials with tuned structures and customized functionalities.

TL;DR: As a new eco-friendly thermoelectric material, copper tin sulfide (Cu2SnS3) ceramics were experimentally studied by Zn-doping and an ultralow lattice thermal conductivity close to theoretical minimum was observed in these samples.
Abstract: As a new eco-friendly thermoelectric material, copper tin sulfide (Cu2SnS3) ceramics were experimentally studied by Zn-doping. Excellent electrical transport properties were obtained by virtue of 3-dimensionally conductive network for holes, which are less affected by the coexistence of cubic and tetragonal phases that formed upon Zn subsitition for Sn; a highest power factors ~0.84 mW m−1 K−2 at 723 K was achieved in the 20% doped sample. Moreover, an ultralow lattice thermal conductivity close to theoretical minimum was observed in these samples, which could be related to the disordering of atoms in the coexisting cubic and tetragonal phases and the interfaces. Thanks to the phonon-glass-electron-crystal features, a maximum ZT ~ 0.58 was obtained at 723 K, which stands among the tops for sulfide thermoelectrics at the same temperature.
