TL;DR: A strictly conserved proline centrally located in M2 of connexin proteins is examined, which suggests that the unique properties associated with this residue are critical to the transduction of voltage gating in these channels.
Abstract: Gap junction channels are structurally distinct from other ion channels in that they comprise two hemichannels which interact head-to-head to form an aqueous channel between cells. Intercellular voltage differences together with increased intracellular concentrations of H+ and Ca2+ cause closure of these normally patent channels. The relative sensitivity to voltage varies with the subunit (connexin) composition of the channels. The third of four transmembrane-spanning regions (M3) in connexins has been proposed to form the channel lining, and a global 'tilting' of the hemichannel subunits has been correlated with channel closure. But specific components involved in transduction of channel gating events have not been identified in either gap junctions or other ion channel classes (however, see model in ref. 5). We have examined a strictly conserved proline centrally located in M2 of connexin proteins. Mutation of this proline (Pro 87) in connexin 26 causes a reversal in the voltage-gating response when the mutant hemichannel is paired with wild-type connexin 26 in the Xenopus oocyte system. This suggests that the unique properties associated with this residue are critical to the transduction of voltage gating in these channels.

TL;DR: A 20min treatment in 1.0 mol/L of aminotrimethylidenephosphonic acid (ATMP) with a pH 0.23 at 45°C formed an anti-corrosive complex film that was composed of 48.4% O, 28.6% P, 7.0% Fe, 4.3% N, and 11.7%C, based on x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Auger electron analysis as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: For protecting mild steel from corrosion, aminotrimethylidenephosphonic acid (ATMP) was more effective than 1-hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid (HEDP), N.N-dimethylidenephosphonoglycine (DMPG), 1-ethyl-phosphonoethylidenediphosphonic acid (EEDP), and ethylenediaminetetramethylidenephosphonic acid (EDTMP). A 20-min treatment in 1.0 mol/L of ATMP with a pH 0.23 at 45°C formed an anti-corrosive complex film that was composed of 48.4% O, 28.6% P, 7.0% Fe, 4.3% N, and 11.7%C, based on x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy. From differences in binding energies of Fe, N, and O, in the shift of C-N and P-O vibration, in the reflection FTIR spectra, and in the change of P-OH and Fe-N vibration before and after film formation, it was deduced that N and O in ATMP were coordinated with Fe2+ in the film.

TL;DR: The Jiangshan-Shaoxing fracture belt (JSFB) is a Late Proterozoic geosuture due to island arc-continent collision in South China as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The Jiangshan-Shaoxing fracture belt (JSFB) is a Late Proterozoic geosuture due to island arc-continent collision in South China. The Cathaysian Block (CT), lying on the southeast side of JSFB, is composed of green schist-amphibolite complexes in the form of a series of tectonic flakes. On the northwest side of JSFB, which is located in the border area of Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Anhhi provinces ( abbreviated as ZJP-JXP-AHP ), are distributed an ophiolite suite and other rocks, constituting the Jiangnan ancient island arc (JN) on the southeast margin of the Yangtze Block (Y Z). The collision between JN and CT at R∼ 0.9Ga ago led to the folding of JN, followed by the intrusion (∼ 0.9–0.8Ga ago) of many dioritic and ultramafic stitching plutons along the fracture belt. As a result, the basic Precambrian tectonic framework of southeastern China was shaped.

Abstract: The production of the [chi][sub 1] and [chi][sub 2] states of charmonium has been observed in 300 GeV/[ital c] [pi][sup [plus minus]][ital N] and [ital pN] interactions. The fraction of the total inclusive [ital J]/[psi] production due to radiative [chi] decay has been determined to be 0.40[plus minus]0.04, 0.37[plus minus]0.03, and 0.30[plus minus]0.04 for the [pi][sup +], [pi][sup [minus]], and proton data, respectively. Total cross sections have been obtained of 131[plus minus]18[plus minus]14 and 188[plus minus]30[plus minus]21 nb/nucleon in the 300 GeV/[ital c] [pi][sup [minus]][ital N] interactions for [chi][sub 1] and [chi][sub 2] production. By measuring the contributions to the [ital J]/[psi] production due to both [psi][prime] and radiative [chi] decay, the cross sections for direct [ital J]/[psi] production have been determined to be 97[plus minus]14, 102[plus minus]14, and 89[plus minus]12 nb/nucleon for [pi][sup +], [pi][sup [minus]], and protons, respectively.

TL;DR: It is found that the total reaction cross sections are sensitive to the nuclear equation of state when the bombarding energy is below 100 MeV/nucleon and alsosensitive to the in-medium nucleon-n nucleon cross section in the full researched energy range.
Abstract: New calculations for the total reaction cross sections (${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{\mathit{R}}$) are carried out within the framework of nuclear transport theory combined with the optical limit of the Glauber theory. The average nucleon-nucleon collision number is obtained based on the nuclear transport theory. The probability of nucleon-nucleon collision, which is assumed to be a Possion distribution, is calculated, and then ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{\mathit{R}}$ is calculated by using the optical limit of the Glauber theory. The calculated ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{\mathit{R}}$ are in agreement with the experimental data for reactions induced by both the stable and the exotic nuclei. In addition, the effects of some ingredients on ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{\mathit{R}}$ can be easily analyzed with the present method. Among them the effects are mainly from Pauli blocking, the nuclear equation of state, the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{\mathit{N}\mathit{N}}$, the effective nucleon density distribution, and the dynamics of nucleus-nucleus collisions. From the calculated energy dependence of ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{\mathit{R}}$, it is found that the total reaction cross sections are sensitive to the nuclear equation of state when the bombarding energy is below 100 MeV/nucleon and also sensitive to the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section in the full researched energy range. Provided that the same nuclear equation of state is applicable to the reactions induced by both the stable and the exotic nuclei in the lower energy range, we seem to have that the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section in the exotic nuclei may be larger than in the stable nuclei.

TL;DR: Li et al. as mentioned in this paper presented extensive chemical and head data sets in four dimensions relevant to the distribution of the sea-water intrusion and ion exchange, and showed that both the simple mixing of local fresh water and sea water and the cation exchange can be recognized.
Abstract: Sea-water intrusion was observed in China's coastal aquifers as early as the 1960s. At present, it covers an area of more than 580 km2, and is continuing to extend in the coastal area of Laizhou Bay. There is a wide transition zone of 1.5–6.0 km, in which both the simple mixing of local fresh water and sea water and the cation exchange can be recognized. In this paper, extensive chemical and head data sets in four dimensions relevant to the distribution of the sea-water intrusion and ion exchange are presented.

TL;DR: It is found that therotational behavior at midrapidity depends strongly on the impact parameter and both the rotational behavior and the in-plane collective flow depend strongly onThe in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section and nuclear equation of state.
Abstract: The rotational behavior together with in-plane collective flow for the intermediate energy $^{40}\mathrm{Ar}$${+}^{27}$Al reaction is investigated by analyzing the rapidity-dependent azimuthal distributions with the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) model. The azimuthal distributions are fitted by a Legendre polynomial expansion up to the second order. By incorporating the uncertainties in the experimental reaction plane determination into our calculations, quantitative agreement between the calculations and data is obtained. It is found that the rotational behavior at midrapidity depends strongly on the impact parameter. Information about the in-plane collective flow is also extracted from the azimuthal distributions. Both the rotational behavior and the in-plane collective flow depend strongly on the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section and nuclear equation of state.

TL;DR: In this article, a nucleation-limited-aggregation (NLA) model is proposed to describe the fractal growth in a thin isothermal aqueous-solution film.
Abstract: In situ observation technique is employed to study the fractal growth in a thin isothermal aqueous-solution film of Ba(${\mathrm{NO}}_{3}$${)}_{2}$. The micromorphology and the growing process of the fractals have been investigated. The experimental findings provide direct evidence that the fractals are formed by random successive nucleation. A nucleation-limited-aggregation (NLA) model is proposed to describe the fractal growth in our system. A computer simulation using the NLA model is also presented.
