Abstract: Quantum dots (QDs) have been facilitating the development of sensitive fluorescence biosensors over the past two decades due to their high quantum yield, narrow and tunable emission spectrum and good photostability. The new emerging QDs with improved biocompatibility further promote their biological applications. In this review, we first briefly introduce the prevalently used QDs and their preparation and bioconjugation approaches. Then we summarize QDs-based fluorescent biosensing for proteins and nucleic acids, and QDs-based applications in cellular and in vivo targeting and imaging. Last but not the least, we envision the potential QDs-based applications in future perspectives.

Abstract: This paper proposes a hybrid fuel cell power system, which consists of a fuel cell, an isolated unidirectional converter, a bidirectional converter, an inverter, and a battery. The fuel cell and the battery are connected to the same voltage bus through an appropriate hybrid full-bridge LLC resonant unidirectional converter and a three-level buck/boost bidirectional converter, respectively. The battery is an auxiliary energy source, powers the load during the system's start state to make it easy for the system to cold start, and provides or absorbs the dynamic power when the load varies and the fuel cell cannot respond immediately, so the system dynamic characteristics are improved. Furthermore, the battery can also provide peak power at overload, so the power rating of the fuel cell can be decreased, which reduces the total system cost. In order to ensure that the system operates with high efficiency, this paper also proposes a power management control scheme, which controls the bidirectional converter operating under buck, boost, or shutdown mode according to the operation condition of the fuel cell and battery, so that the battery can be charged or discharged. The operation of the system during cold start and overload are analyzed in detail. A 1-kW fuel cell power system was built in the laboratory. Experimental results are shown to verify the theoretical analysis.

Abstract: This paper proposes an improved Z-source inverter topology. Compared to the traditional Z-source inverter, it can reduce the Z-source capacitor voltage stress significantly to perform the same voltage boost, and has inherent limitation to inrush current at startup. The control strategy of the proposed Z-source inverter is exactly the same as the traditional one, so all the existing control strategy can be used directly. A soft-start strategy is also proposed to suppress the inrush surge and the resonance of Z-source capacitors and inductors. The operation principle of the proposed topology and comparison with the traditional topology are analyzed in detail. Simulation and experimental results are given to demonstrate the new features of the improved topology.
