TL;DR: The results suggest that the decreased functional connectivity within the DMN in mTLE may be a consequence of the decreased connection density underpinning the degeneration of structural connectivity.
Abstract: Studies of in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) patients with hippocampal sclerosis (HS) have reported reductions in both functional and structural connectivity between hippocampal structures and adjacent brain regions. However, little is known about the connectivity among the default mode network (DMN) in mTLE. Here, we hypothesized that both functional and structural connectivity within the DMN were disturbed in mTLE. To test this hypothesis, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) were applied to examine the DMN connectivity of 20 mTLE patients, and 20 gender- and age-matched healthy controls. Combining these two techniques, we explored the changes in functional (temporal correlation coefficient derived from fMRI) and structural (path length and connection density derived from DTI tractography) connectivity of the DMN. Compared to the controls, we found that both functional and structural connectivity were significantly decreased between the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC)/precuneus (PCUN) and bilateral mesial temporal lobes (mTLs) in patients. No significant between-group difference was found between the PCC/PCUN and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). In addition, functional connectivity was found to be correlated with structural connectivity in two pairwise regions, namely between the PCC/PCUN and bilateral mTLs, respectively. Our results suggest that the decreased functional connectivity within the DMN in mTLE may be a consequence of the decreased connection density underpinning the degeneration of structural connectivity.

TL;DR: A new strategy to synthesize a highly efficient CO(2) capturer by incorporating tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA) into as-synthesized MCM-41 (AM) is reported, and the spokelike structure of the micelle in the channel of the support is proven to be essential to the distribution of guest amine.
Abstract: A new strategy to synthesize a highly efficient CO(2) capturer by incorporating tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA) into as-synthesized MCM-41 (AM) is reported. The amine guest can be distributed in the micelle of the support, forming a web within the mesopore to trap CO(2) molecules and resulting in a high adsorption capacity for CO(2) up to 237 mg g(-1). Four samples of the as-synthesized MCM-41 with a different amount or type of surfactant are employed as supports to investigate the influence of micelles on the CO(2) adsorption, and the spokelike structure of the micelle in the channel of the support is proven to be essential to the distribution of guest amine. Among these supports, the AM sample is the most competitive due to the advantages of energy and time saving in preparation of the support along with the resulting higher CO(2) adsorption capacity. At the optimal loading of 50 wt % TEPA, the AM-50 sample exhibits a high adsorption capacity of 183 mg g(-1) in the sixth adsorption cycle at 5 % CO(2) concentration.

TL;DR: In this article, two coated titanium oxide (TiO2) routes are designed to prepare core-shell Co@NPC@NiO2 and multi-interfaced yolk-shell C-ZIF-67@TiO 2 structures, which have remarkable absorbing properties in wide frequency bands from 2-18 GHz with thicknesses of 1.0-5.0 mm.
Abstract: To overcome the shortcomings (poor impedance mismatching and weak electromagnetic wave attenuation) of the Co nanoparticles embedded into nanoporous carbon (Co@NPC) derived from the thermal decomposition of zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67), two coated titanium oxide (TiO2) routes are designed to prepare core–shell Co@NPC@TiO2 and multi-interfaced yolk–shell C–ZIF-67@TiO2 (obtained from the thermal decomposition of ZIF-67@TiO2) structures. The permittivity and permeability of C–ZIF-67@TiO2 significantly depend on the thickness of the TiO2 shell in ZIF-67@TiO2, and the thickness of the TiO2 shell in the as-obtained samples can be easily controlled via changing the addition content of tetrabutyl titanate in the hydrolyzation process. The as-prepared samples have remarkable absorbing characteristics in wide frequency bands from 2–18 GHz with thicknesses of 1.0–5.0 mm. 50 wt% of the C–ZIF-67@TiO2-2 (the addition amount of tetrabutyl titanate is 2 mL) nanocomposite filled within paraffin shows a maximum reflection loss (RL) of −51.7 dB at an absorbing thickness of 1.65 mm, meanwhile, for the Co@NPC@TiO2-1.2 (the addition amount of tetrabutyl titanate is 1.2 mL) nanocomposite, a maximum RL can be achieved of −31.7 dB at 1.5 mm. This study provides a good reference for the future preparation of other carbon-based lightweight microwave absorbing materials derived from metal organic frameworks.

TL;DR: Transparent metaholograms based on silicon metasurfaces that allow high-resolution grayscale images to be encoded and feature the highest diffraction and transmission efficiencies are demonstrated.
Abstract: We demonstrate transparent metaholograms based on silicon metasurfaces that allow high-resolution grayscale images to be encoded. The holograms feature the highest diffraction and transmission efficiencies, and operate over a broad spectral range.
