TL;DR: A novel tree-based method called fast splitting algorithm based on consecutive slot status detection (FSA-CSS), which includes a fast splitting (FS) mechanism and a shrink mechanism and achieves a system throughput of 0.41, outperforming the existing ultra high frequency RFID solutions.
Abstract: Efficient and effective objects identification using radio frequency identification (RFID) is always a challenge in large-scale industrial and commercial applications. Among existing solutions, the tree-based splitting scheme has attracted increasing attention because of its high extendibility and feasibility. However, the conventional tree splitting algorithms can only solve tag collision with counter value equals to zero and usually result in performance degradation when the number of tags is large. To overcome such drawbacks, we propose a novel tree-based method called fast splitting algorithm based on consecutive slot status detection (FSA-CSS), which includes a fast splitting (FS) mechanism and a shrink mechanism. Specifically, the FS mechanism is used to reduce collisions by increasing commands when the number of consecutive collision is above a threshold, whereas the shrink mechanism is used to reduce extra idle slots introduced by the FS. Simulation results supplemented by prototyping tests show that the proposed FSA-CSS achieves a system throughput of 0.41, outperforming the existing ultra high frequency RFID solutions.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the atmospheric circulation changes related to sea surface temperature (SST) variations that control the equatorial African rainfall and found that the long-termdrought duringApril,May and June overCEAmay reflect the large-scale response of the atmosphere to tropical SST variations.
Abstract: Previous studies found thatCentral Equatorial Africa (CEA)has experienced a long-termdrying trend over the past twodecades. To further evaluate thisfinding,we investigate possiblemechanisms for this drought by analyzingmultiple sources of observations and reanalysis data.We examine the atmospheric circulation changes related to sea surface temperature (SST) variations that control the equatorial African rainfall. Our results indicate that the long-termdrought duringApril,May and June overCEAmay reflect the large-scale response of the atmosphere to tropical SST variations. Likely the drought results primarily fromSSTvariations over Indo-Pacific associatedwith the enhanced andwestward extended tropical Walker circulation. These are consistentwith theweakened ascent overCentral Africa that is associated with the reduced low-levelmoisture transport. The large-scale atmospheric circulation changes associatedwith aweakerWestAfricanmonsoon also have some contribution. These results reinforce the notion that tropical SSTshave large impacts on rainfall over equatorial Africa andhighlight the need to further distinguish the contributionof SSTs changes (e.g., LaNiña-like pattern and IndianOcean warming)due tonatural variability and anthropogenic forcing to the drought.

TL;DR: It is found that the new surface defect states caused by bismuth vacancy have greatly up-shifted the valence band and efficiently enhanced the separation and transfer rates of photogenerated electron and hole.
Abstract: Both energy band and charge separation and transfer are the crucial affecting factor for a photochemical reaction. Herein, the BiOCl nanosheets without and with surface bismuth vacancy (BOC, V-BOC) are prepared by a simple hydrothermal method. It is found that the new surface defect states caused by bismuth vacancy have greatly up-shifted the valence band and efficiently enhanced the separation and transfer rates of photogenerated electron and hole. It is amazing that the photocatalytic activity of V-BOC is 13.6 times higher than that of BOC for the degradation methyl orange (MO). We can develop an efficient photocatalyst by the introduction of defects.

TL;DR: This paper addresses the group consensus problem of second-order nonlinear multi-agent systems through leader-following approach and pinning control and proposes some consensus criteria to guarantee that the agents asymptotically follow the virtual leader in each group, while agents in different groups behave independently.
Abstract: This paper addresses the group consensus problem of second-order nonlinear multi-agent systems through leader-following approach and pinning control. The network topology is assumed to be directed and weakly connected. The pinning consensus protocol is designed according to the agent property, that is, the inter-act agent and the intra-act agent. Some consensus criteria are proposed to guarantee that the agents asymptotically follow the virtual leader in each group, while agents in different groups behave independently. Numerical example is also provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis.
