TL;DR: This work introduces a high-speed 3-D shape measurement technique based on composite phase-shifting fringes and a multi-view system that can achieve a speed of 120 frames per second with 25-period fringe patterns for fast, dense, and accurate3-D measurement.
Abstract: In recent years, fringe projection has become an established and essential method for dynamic three-dimensional (3-D) shape measurement in different fields such as online inspection and real-time quality control. Numerous high-speed 3-D shape measurement methods have been developed by either employing high-speed hardware, minimizing the number of pattern projection, or both. However, dynamic 3-D shape measurement of arbitrarily-shaped objects with full sensor resolution without the necessity of additional pattern projections is still a big challenge. In this work, we introduce a high-speed 3-D shape measurement technique based on composite phase-shifting fringes and a multi-view system. The geometry constraint is adopted to search the corresponding points independently without additional images. Meanwhile, by analysing the 3-D position and the main wrapped phase of the corresponding point, pairs with an incorrect 3-D position or a considerable phase difference are effectively rejected. All of the qualified corresponding points are then corrected, and the unique one as well as the related period order is selected through the embedded triangular wave. Finally, considering that some points can only be captured by one of the cameras due to the occlusions, these points may have different fringe orders in the two views, so a left-right consistency check is employed to eliminate those erroneous period orders in this case. Several experiments on both static and dynamic scenes are performed, verifying that our method can achieve a speed of 120 frames per second (fps) with 25-period fringe patterns for fast, dense, and accurate 3-D measurement.

TL;DR: The proof-of-concept experiment demonstrates that 2D-encoded patterns based on dual-mode emitting nanomaterials are very promising for anti-counterfeiting applications, and is believed that this preliminary study will advance the development of the fluorescent materials for potential applications in anti- counterfeiting and optical multiplexing.
Abstract: Developing advanced luminescent materials and techniques is of significant importance for anti-counterfeiting applications, and remains a huge challenge. In this work, a new and efficient approach for achieving efficient dual-mode luminescence with tunable color outputs via Gd3+ -mediated interfacial energy transfer, Ce3+ -assisted cross-relaxation, and core-shell nanostructuring strategy is reported. The introduction of Ce3+ into the inner core not only serves the regulation of upconversion emission, but also facilitates the ultraviolet photon harvesting and subsequent energy transfer to downshifting (DS) activators in the outer shell layer. Furthermore, the construction of the core@shell nanoarchitecture enables the spatial separation of upconverting activators and DS centers, which greatly suppresses their adverse cross-relaxation processes. Consequently, efficient and multicolor-tunable dual-mode emissions can be simultaneously observed in the pre-designed NaGdF4 :Yb/Ho/Ce@NaYF4 :X (X = Eu, Tb, Sm, Dy) core-shell nanostructures under 254 nm ultraviolet light and 980 nm laser excitation. The proof-of-concept experiment demonstrates that 2D-encoded patterns based on dual-mode emitting nanomaterials are very promising for anti-counterfeiting applications. It is believed that this preliminary study will advance the development of the fluorescent materials for potential applications in anti-counterfeiting and optical multiplexing.

TL;DR: The authors proposed a joint approach, named feature ensemble plus sample selection (SS-FE), which takes both types of adaptation into account, namely labeling adaptation and instance adaptation, to learn a new labeling function in a feature re-weighting manner.
Abstract: The domain adaptation problem arises often in the field of sentiment classification. There are two distinct needs in domain adaptation, namely labeling adaptation and instance adaptation. Most of current research focuses on the former one, while neglects the latter one. In this work, we propose a joint approach, named feature ensemble plus sample selection (SS-FE), which takes both types of adaptation into account. A feature ensemble (FE) model is first proposed to learn a new labeling function in a feature re-weighting manner. Furthermore, a PCA-based sample selection (PCA-SS) method is proposed as an aid to FE for instance adaptation. Experimental results show that the proposed SSFE approach could gain significant improvements, compared to individual FE and PCA-SS, due to its comprehensive consideration of both labeling adaptation and instance adaptation.

TL;DR: The proposed distributed BP algorithm has a near-optimal delay performance, approaching that of the high-complexity exhaustive search method; the modified BP offers a good delay performance at low communication complexity; both the average degree distribution and the outage upper bound analysis relying on stochastic geometry match well with the authors' Monte-Carlo simulations.
Abstract: Heterogeneous cellular networks (HCNs) with embedded small cells are considered, where multiple mobile users wish to download network content of different popularity. By caching data into the small-cell base stations, we will design distributed caching optimization algorithms via belief propagation (BP) for minimizing the downloading latency. First, we derive the delay-minimization objective function and formulate an optimization problem. Then, we develop a framework for modeling the underlying HCN topology with the aid of a factor graph. Furthermore, a distributed BP algorithm is proposed based on the network's factor graph. Next, we prove that a fixed point of convergence exists for our distributed BP algorithm. In order to reduce the complexity of the BP, we propose a heuristic BP algorithm. Furthermore, we evaluate the average downloading performance of our HCN for different numbers and locations of the base stations and mobile users, with the aid of stochastic geometry theory. By modeling the nodes distributions using a Poisson point process, we develop the expressions of the average factor graph degree distribution, as well as an upper bound of the outage probability for random caching schemes. We also improve the performance of random caching. Our simulations show that 1) the proposed distributed BP algorithm has a near-optimal delay performance, approaching that of the high-complexity exhaustive search method; 2) the modified BP offers a good delay performance at low communication complexity; 3) both the average degree distribution and the outage upper bound analysis relying on stochastic geometry match well with our Monte-Carlo simulations; and 4) the optimization based on the upper bound provides both a better outage and a better delay performance than the benchmarks.
