TL;DR: Results show that degree-based attacks are more efficient than random attacks on network structural controllability and cascade failures in directed Erdos–Renyi and scale-free networks under attacks and cascading failures.
Abstract: Structural controllability, which is an interesting property of complex networks, attracts many researchers from various fields. The maximum matching algorithm was recently applied to explore the minimum number of driver nodes, where control signals are injected, for controlling the whole network. Here we study the controllability of directed Erdos–Renyi and scale-free networks under attacks and cascading failures. Results show that degree-based attacks are more efficient than random attacks on network structural controllability. Cascade failures also do great harm to network controllability even if they are triggered by a local node failure.

TL;DR: To improve the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composite, networks of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were grown on micron-sized carbon fibers and single-walls were dispersed into the epoxy matrix so that these two types of carbon Nanotubes entangle at the carbon fiber (CF)/epoxy matrix interface.
Abstract: To improve the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composite, networks of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were grown on micron-sized carbon fibers and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were dispersed into the epoxy matrix so that these two types of carbon nanotubes entangle at the carbon fiber (CF)/epoxy matrix interface. The MWNTs on the CF fiber (CF-MWNTs) were grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD), while the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were finely dispersed in the epoxy matrix precursor with the aid of a dispersing agent polyimide-graft-bisphenol A diglyceryl acrylate (PI-BDA) copolymer. Using vacuum assisted resin transfer molding, the SWNT-laden epoxy matrix precursor was forced into intimate contact with the “hairy” surface of the CF-MWNT fiber. The tube density and the average tube length of the MWNT layer on CF was controlled by the CVD growth time. The ILSS of the CF-MWNT/epoxy resin composite was examined using the short beam shear test. TL;DR: In this paper, a dense array of CdS-ZnS core-shell nanorods was synthesized through a simple two-step aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition (AACVD) method.
Abstract: A dense array of CdS–ZnS core–shell nanorods film (1D vertically aligned) was synthesized through a simple two-step aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition (AACVD) method. In this configuration, a ZnS nanocrystal (protective shell) was grown in situ on a CdS core, forming nanorod heterostructures to restrain the photo-corrosion and enhance the charge separation and transportation efficiencies of CdS cores. The as-prepared CdS–ZnS films showed elevated photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance (over four times than that of uncoated CdS arrays) with a significant photocurrent density of 7.8 mA cm−2 (0 V, vs. SCE) and incident photon to electron conversion efficiency (IPCE) values above 35% under AM 1.5G irradiation. Moreover, the stability of the photoelectrode was tested for over 16 min. These results suggest that the dense array of CdS–ZnS core–shell heterostructures provides a unique spatial distribution of the photo-excited charge carriers, as well as stable anti-photo-corrosion ability, and therefore is promising to be a photoelectrode in PEC hydrogen generation from water.

TL;DR: In this article, the Tafel polarization curve results indicate that l-tryptophan acts more as a cathodic than anodic inhibitor, and the adsorption of l-to-throneophan on the surface of low carbon steel obeys the Langmuir adaption isotherm.
Abstract: The inhibition behavior of low carbon steel in 1 M HCl by l-tryptophan was investigated with weight loss experiment and Tafel polarization curve in the used temperature range (298–328 K). All the experimental results show that l-tryptophan has excellent corrosion inhibition performance and the most effective concentration of inhibitor is 1 × 10−2 mol L−1. The Tafel polarization curve results indicate that l-tryptophan acts more as a cathodic than anodic inhibitor. The adsorption of l-tryptophan on the surface of low carbon steel obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and the thermodynamic parameters were determined and discussed. The adsorption behavior of l-tryptophan at Fe surface (1 1 0) was also investigated by the molecule dynamics simulation method and density functional theory. The results indicated that the l-tryptophan could adsorb firmly on the Fe surface through the indole ring with π-electrons and nitrogen/oxygen atom with lone-pair electrons in its molecule.
