TL;DR: This paper presents a two-dimensional image-matrix-based error model, namely, nuclear norm based matrix regression (NMR), for face representation and classification, and develops a fast ADMM algorithm to solve the approximate NMR model.
Abstract: Recently, regression analysis has become a popular tool for face recognition. Most existing regression methods use the one-dimensional, pixel-based error model, which characterizes the representation error individually, pixel by pixel, and thus neglects the two-dimensional structure of the error image. We observe that occlusion and illumination changes generally lead, approximately, to a low-rank error image. In order to make use of this low-rank structural information, this paper presents a two-dimensional image-matrix-based error model, namely, nuclear norm based matrix regression (NMR), for face representation and classification. NMR uses the minimal nuclear norm of representation error image as a criterion, and the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) to calculate the regression coefficients. We further develop a fast ADMM algorithm to solve the approximate NMR model and show it has a quadratic rate of convergence. We experiment using five popular face image databases: the Extended Yale B, AR, EURECOM, Multi-PIE and FRGC. Experimental results demonstrate the performance advantage of NMR over the state-of-the-art regression-based methods for face recognition in the presence of occlusion and illumination variations.

TL;DR: An adaptive backstepping controller is proposed for precise tracking control of hydraulic systems to handle parametric uncertainties along with nonlinear friction compensation, and the robustness against unconsidered dynamics, as well as external disturbances is also ensured via Lyapunov analysis.
Abstract: This paper concerns high-accuracy tracking control for hydraulic actuators with nonlinear friction compensation Typically, LuGre model-based friction compensation has been widely employed in sundry industrial servomechanisms However, due to the piecewise continuous property, it is difficult to be integrated with backstepping design, which needs the time derivation of the employed friction model Hence, nonlinear model-based hydraulic control rarely sets foot in friction compensation with nondifferentiable friction models, such as LuGre model, Stribeck effects, although they can give excellent friction description and prediction In this paper, a novel continuously differentiable nonlinear friction model is first derived by modifying the traditional piecewise continuous LuGre model, then an adaptive backstepping controller is proposed for precise tracking control of hydraulic systems to handle parametric uncertainties along with nonlinear friction compensation In the formulated nonlinear hydraulic system model, friction parameters, servovalve null shift, and orifice-type internal leakage are all uniformly considered in the proposed controller The controller theoretically guarantees asymptotic tracking performance in the presence of parametric uncertainties, and the robustness against unconsidered dynamics, as well as external disturbances, is also ensured via Lyapunov analysis The effectiveness of the proposed controller is demonstrated via comparative experimental results

TL;DR: It is found that it is rather feasible to realize a new class of 2D materials with a direct bandgap and high carrier mobility, namely antimonene oxides with different content of oxygen, which highlight the potential of these 2D semiconductors as appealing ultrathin materials for future flexible electronics and optoelectronics devices.
Abstract: Highly stable antimonene, as the cousin of phosphorene from group-VA, has opened up exciting realms in the two-dimensional (2D) materials family. However, pristine antimonene is an indirect band gap semiconductor, which greatly restricts its applications for optoelectronics devices. Identifying suitable materials, both responsive to incident photons and efficient for carrier transfer, is urgently needed for ultrathin devices. Herein, by means of first-principles computations we found that it is rather feasible to realize a new class of 2D materials with a direct bandgap and high carrier mobility, namely antimonene oxides with different content of oxygen. Moreover, these tunable direct bandgaps cover a wide range from 0 to 2.28 eV, which are crucial for solar cell and photodetector applications. Especially, the antimonene oxide (18Sb–18O) is a 2D topological insulator with a sizable global bandgap of 177 meV, which has a nontrivial Z2 topological invariant in the bulk and the topological states on the edge...

TL;DR: In this paper, the sonication liquid-phase exfoliation (LSE) method was used to extract 2D materials from graphene, h-BN and black phosphorus nanosheets.
Abstract: Since graphene was discovered, the study of two-dimensional (2D) materials with atomic thickness has become a hot spot. To prepare different 2D materials, different methods have been groped, such as mechanical exfoliation, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), liquid-phase exfoliation. This review mainly introduced the sonication liquid-phase exfoliation, an effective method to prepare 2D materials. Compared with mechanical exfoliation and CVD methods, liquid-phase exfoliation is convenient and cost-effective and provides high yield. We focused on both theoretical and experimental details of this method. This method was reviewed according to the development of 2D materials from graphene, h-BN to transition metal chalcogenides (TMDs) and black phosphorus nanosheets. We discussed the applications of liquid-exfoliated 2D materials including micro- and nanoelectrical devices, photoelectric devices, and energy storage devices.

TL;DR: A general strategy to enhance the perovskite film conductivity that carbon nanotubes (CNTs) conductive nanonets are constructed from to provide fast carrier tracks and indicates the promising potentials of the perOVskite/CNT composites for solution and ambient condition processed flexible devices.
Abstract: Intrinsically high mobility and large absorption coefficient endow inorganic halide perovskites (IHPs) with great promise for high-performance photodetectors (PDs), which, however, are being hindered by the low carrier extraction and transport efficiency of the solution assembled films. Here, we report on a general strategy to enhance the perovskite film conductivity that carbon nanotubes (CNTs) conductive nanonets are constructed from to provide fast carrier tracks. Resultantly, the CsPbBr3 nanosheet/CNT composite films exhibit both high light harvesting and high conductivity, such advantages are demonstrated by the high performances of corresponding planar PDs. Specifically, the highest external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 7488% and the highest responsivity of 31.1 A W–1 under a bias of 10 V among IHP PDs with planar structure are achieved, which are almost 125-fold over the previous best results. Besides, the efficient charge extraction and transport also remarkably contribute to the fast response spee...
