Abstract: This brief provides improved conditions for the existence of a unique equilibrium point and its global asymptotic stability of cellular neural networks with time delay. Both delay-dependent and delay-independent conditions are obtained by using more general Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals. These conditions are expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which can be checked easily by recently developed standard algorithms. Examples are provided to demonstrate the reduced conservatism of the proposed criteria by numerically comparing with those reported recently in the literature.

Abstract: The photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CRR) represents a promising route for the clean utilization of stranded renewable resources, but poor selectivity resulting from the competing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in aqueous solution limits its practical applicability. In the present contribution a photocatalyst with hydrophobic surfaces was fabricated. It facilitates an efficient three‐phase contact of CO2 (gas), H2O (liquid), and catalyst (solid). Thus, concentrated CO2 molecules in the gas phase contact the catalyst surface directly, and can overcome the mass‐transfer limitations of CO2, inhibit the HER because of lowering proton contacts, and overall enhance the CRR. Even when loaded with platinum nanoparticles, one of the most efficient HER promotion cocatalysts, the three‐phase photocatalyst maintains a selectivity of 87.9 %. Overall, three‐phase photocatalysis provides a general and reliable method to enhance the competitiveness of the CRR.

Abstract: In this paper, we are concerned with the problem of stability analysis and stabilization control design for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with probabilistic interval delay. By employing the information of probability distribution of the time delay, the original system is transformed into a T-S fuzzy model with stochastic parameter matrices. Based on the new type of T-S fuzzy model, the delay-distribution-dependent criteria for the mean-square exponential stability of the considered systems are derived by using the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method, parallel distributed compensation approach, and the convexity of some matrix equations. The solvability of the derived criteria depends not only on the size of the delay but also on the probability distribution of the delay taking values in some intervals. The revisions of the main criteria in this paper can also be used to deal with the case when only the information of variation range of the delay is considered. It is shown by practical examples that our method can lead to very less conservative results than those by other existing methods.

Abstract: The Vandermonde decomposition of Toeplitz matrices, discovered by Caratheodory and Fejer in the 1910s and rediscovered by Pisarenko in the 1970s, forms the basis of modern subspace methods for 1-D frequency estimation. Many related numerical tools have also been developed for multidimensional (MD), especially 2-D, frequency estimation; however, a fundamental question has remained unresolved as to whether an analog of the Vandermonde decomposition holds for multilevel Toeplitz matrices in the MD case. In this paper, an affirmative answer to this question and a constructive method for finding the decomposition are provided when the matrix rank is lower than the dimension of each Toeplitz block. A numerical method for searching for a decomposition is also proposed when the matrix rank is higher. The new results are applied to study the MD frequency estimation within the recent super-resolution framework. A precise formulation of the atomic $\ell _{0}$ norm is derived using the Vandermonde decomposition. Practical algorithms for frequency estimation are proposed based on the relaxation techniques. Extensive numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of these algorithms compared with the existing atomic norm and subspace methods.
