TL;DR: In this article, nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) with high fluorescence quantum yield (46.2%) were successfully synthesized through one-pot hydrothermal carbonization approach assisted by ethylenediamine as surface passivation agent.
Abstract: In this work, nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) with high fluorescence quantum yield (46.2%) were successfully synthesized through one-pot hydrothermal carbonization approach assisted by ethylenediamine as surface passivation agent, wherein alanine acted as a single carbon source, ethylenediamine as the surface passivation agent. The obtained biocompatible N-CQDs could effectively label both the MCF-7 cell membranes and the nucleus, suggesting the potential application in biolabeling and bioimaging. Furthermore, the addition of dihydronicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) could dramatically quench the fluorescence of N-CQDs. Therefore, a novel protocol for NADH determination was established and its mechanism was discussed. This proposed fluorescence sensor displayed an enhanced performance for NADH determination with the linear range up to 80 μM and the detection limit down to 25.1 nM.

TL;DR: In this article, a 0D-2D nanohybrid consisting of a nickel-based bimetal phosphorus trisulfide (Ni1−xFexPS3) nanomosaic decorates on the surface of MXene nanosheets is presented.
Abstract: Herein, the authors present the development of novel 0D–2D nanohybrids consisting of a nickel‐based bimetal phosphorus trisulfide (Ni1−xFexPS3) nanomosaic that decorates on the surface of MXene nanosheets (denoted as NFPS@MXene). The nanohybrids are obtained through a facile self‐assemble process of transition metal layered double hydroxide (TMLDH) on MXene surface; followed by a low temperature in situ solid‐state reaction step. By tuning the Ni:Fe ratio, the as‐synthesized NFPS@MXene nanohybrids exhibit excellent activities when tested as electrocatalysts for overall water splitting. Particularly, with the initial Ni:Fe ratio of 7:3, the obtained Ni0.7Fe0.3PS3@MXene nanohybrid reveals low overpotential (282 mV) and Tafel slope (36.5 mV dec−1) for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in 1 m KOH solution. Meanwhile, the Ni0.9Fe0.1PS3@MXene shows low overpotential (196 mV) for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in 1 m KOH solution. When integrated for overall water splitting, the Ni0.7Fe0.3PS3@MXene || Ni0.9Fe0.1PS3@MXene couple shows a low onset potential of 1.42 V and needs only 1.65 V to reach a current density of 10 mA cm−2, which is better than the all noble metal IrO2 || Pt/C electrocatalyst (1.71 mV@10 mA cm−2). Given the chemical versatility of Ni1−xFexPS3 and the convenient self‐assemble process, the nanohybrids demonstrated in this work are promising for energy conversion applications.

TL;DR: The key operation of MSPCA is to rewrite the MPCA into multilinear regression forms and relax it for sparse regression, which has the potential to outperform the existing PCA-based subspace learning algorithms.
Abstract: In this brief, multilinear sparse principal component analysis (MSPCA) is proposed for feature extraction from the tensor data. MSPCA can be viewed as a further extension of the classical principal component analysis (PCA), sparse PCA (SPCA) and the recently proposed multilinear PCA (MPCA). The key operation of MSPCA is to rewrite the MPCA into multilinear regression forms and relax it for sparse regression. Differing from the recently proposed MPCA, MSPCA inherits the sparsity from the SPCA and iteratively learns a series of sparse projections that capture most of the variation of the tensor data. Each nonzero element in the sparse projections is selected from the most important variables/factors using the elastic net. Extensive experiments on Yale, Face Recognition Technology face databases, and COIL-20 object database encoded the object images as second-order tensors, and Weizmann action database as third-order tensors demonstrate that the proposed MSPCA algorithm has the potential to outperform the existing PCA-based subspace learning algorithms.
