TL;DR: Theoretical calculations revealed that the remarkable catalytic performance of CoRu 0.5 /CQDs resulted from the optimal alloy electronic structure realized by incorporating small amounts of Ru, which enabled fast interfacial electron transfer to intermediates, thus benefitting H 2 evolution kinetics.
Abstract: Designing bifunctional catalysts capable of driving the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and also H2 evolution via the hydrolysis of hydrogen storage materials such as ammonia borane (AB) is of considerable practical importance for future hydrogen economies. Herein, we systematically examined the effect of tensile lattice strain in CoRu nanoalloys supported on carbon quantum dots (CoRu/CQDs) on hydrogen generation by HER and AB hydrolysis. By varying the Ru content, the lattice parameters and Ru-induced lattice strain in the CoRu nanoalloys could be tuned. The CoRu0.5 /CQDs catalyst with an ultra-low Ru content (1.33 wt.%) exhibited excellent catalytic activity for HER (η=18 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in 1 M KOH) and extraordinary activity for the hydrolysis of AB with a turnover frequency of 3255.4 mol ( H 2 ) mol-1 (Ru) min-1 or 814.7 mol ( H 2 ) mol-1 (cat) min-1 at 298 K, respectively, representing one of the best activities yet reported for AB hydrolysis over a ruthenium alloy catalyst. Moreover, the CoRu0.5 /CQDs catalyst displayed excellent stability during each reaction, including seven alternating cycles of HER and AB hydrolysis. Theoretical calculations revealed that the remarkable catalytic performance of CoRu0.5 /CQDs resulted from the optimal alloy electronic structure realized by incorporating small amounts of Ru, which enabled fast interfacial electron transfer to intermediates, thus benefitting H2 evolution kinetics. Results support the development of new and improved catalysts HER and AB hydrolysis.

TL;DR: Simulations show that the bandgap of WS2 nanosheets decreases from 1.18 to 0.02 and 0.65 eV by introducing W and S defects respectively, which may contribute to the broadband saturable absorption property of the WS2.
Abstract: Transition-metal dichalcogenides, such as tungsten disulfide (WS2) and molybdenium disulfide (MoS2), are highly anisotropic layered materials and have attracted growing interest from basic research to practical applications due to their exotic physical property that may complement graphene and other semiconductor materials. WS2 nanosheets are found to exhibit broadband nonlinear saturable absorption property, and saturable absorbers (SAs) are fabricated by depositing WS2 nanosheets on side-polished fibers. Attributing to the weak evanescent field and long interaction length, the WS2 nanosheets are not exposed to large optical intensity, which allows the SA to work at the high-power regime. The SAs are used to mode lock erbium- and ytterbium-doped fiber lasers with normal dispersion, producing trains of dissipative soliton at 1.55 and 1.06 µm respectively. Simulations show that the bandgap of WS2 nanosheets decreases from 1.18 to 0.02 and 0.65 eV by introducing W and S defects respectively, which may contribute to the broadband saturable absorption property of the WS2.

TL;DR: A proteomic analysis combining photosynthesis-related key enzymes measurement and mRNA level analysis was used to investigate the variations of proteins involved in the photosynthetic apparatus in flag leaves of high-yield rice LYPJ during senescence under field conditions, showing that Ca2+-ATPase was more stable duringsenescence of flag leaves in rice.
Abstract: A proteomic analysis combining photosynthesis-related key enzymes measurement and mRNA level analysis was used to investigate the variations of proteins involved in the photosynthetic apparatus in flag leaves of high-yield rice LYPJ during senescence under field conditions. The stability of chlorophyll-protein complexes of thylakoid membranes was measured by BN-PAGE system. Our findings revealed that the LHCII complexes were more stable than F0F1-ATPase and Cyb

/f complexes. Thylakoid membranes proteins during the senescence stage were separated by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. We identified 13 photosynthesis-related proteins (a fivefold or greater variation), including electron transport, Calvin–Benson cycle and chloroplast protease during senescence of flag leaves. Moreover, our data showed that Ca2+-ATPase was more stable during senescence of flag leaves in rice, compared to Mg2+-ATPase. In enzymes activities analyses, it was observed that a little increment of C4 photosynthetic enzymes activities at the beginning of flag leaves senescence might compensate, to some degree, for the larger reductions in Rubisco activity, confirmed by quantitative RT-PCR analysis.
