08 Sep 2018TL;DR: A simple yet effective re-ID method is proposed, which models foreground person and original image patches individually, and obtains enriched representations from two separate CNN streams, and achieves mAP of 83.0% on the standard person search benchmark datasets.
Abstract: In this work, we tackle the problem of person search, which is a challenging task consisted of pedestrian detection and person re-identification (re-ID). Instead of sharing representations in a single joint model, we find that separating detector and re-ID feature extraction yields better performance. In order to extract more representative features for each identity, we propose a simple yet effective re-ID method, which models foreground person and original image patches individually, and obtains enriched representations from two separate CNN streams. On the standard person search benchmark datasets, we achieve mAP of \(83.0\%\) and \(32.6\%\) respectively for CUHK-SYSU and PRW, surpassing the state of the art by a large margin (more than 5 pp).

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel heterostructured CdS/BiVO4 nanocomposites were fabricated in a low-temperature water bath system, which achieved a high H2-production rate of 0.57 mmol h 1 under visible light irradiation.
Abstract: Novel heterostructured CdS/BiVO4 nanocomposites were fabricated in a low-temperature water bath system. The uniform CdS nanoparticles with an average size of 20 nm were homogeneously interspersed on BiVO4 nanosheets. The coupling of BiVO4 and CdS nanoparticles could notably promote the photocatalytic activity. The composites reached a high H2-production rate of 0.57 mmol h–1 under visible light irradiation, about 5.18 times higher than that of pure CdS nanoparticles. The dominant active species in the photocatalytic system were also confirmed by the radical trapping test. Based on the calculation and experimental results, a Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism was proposed, which was further confirmed by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and the cycling test. The Z-scheme photocatalytic system endows the CdS/BiVO4 heterostructure with strong reducibility and oxidizability and excellent stability.

TL;DR: A comprehensive review on the applications of viscoelasticity-induced particle migration (particle separation, cell deformability measurement and alignment, particle solution exchange, rheometry-on-a-chip and others) is presented.
Abstract: Recently, research on particle migration in non-Newtonian viscoelastic fluids has gained considerable attention. In a viscoelastic fluid, three dimensional (3D) particle focusing can be easily realized in simple channels without the need for any external force fields or complex microchannel structures compared with that in a Newtonian fluid. Due to its promising properties for particle precise focusing and manipulation, this field has been developed rapidly, and research on the field has been shifted from fundamentals to applications. This review will elaborate the recent progress of particle migration in viscoelastic fluids, especially on the aspect of applications. The hydrodynamic forces on the micro/nano particles in viscoelastic fluids are discussed. Next, we elaborate the basic particle migration in viscoelasticity-dominant fluids and elasto-inertial fluids in straight channels. After that, a comprehensive review on the applications of viscoelasticity-induced particle migration (particle separation, cell deformability measurement and alignment, particle solution exchange, rheometry-on-a-chip and others) is presented; finally, we thrash out some perspectives on the future directions of particle migration in viscoelastic fluids.

TL;DR: Experimental results show that the proposed LPP solution scheme is able to classify much more accurately than conventional LPP and to obtain a classification performance that is only little influenced by the definition of neighbor samples.
