TL;DR: It is believed that AIEgen-based bioprobes will play vital roles in the exploration of mysterious life processes by integration with various cutting-edge modalities and techniques with an ultimate goal of addressing more healthcare issues.
Abstract: The emergence of the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) concept significantly changes the cognition of the scientific community toward classic photophysical phenomena. More importantly, the AIE phenomenon has brought huge opportunities for the analysis of bioactive species, the monitoring of complicated biological processes, and the elucidation of key physiological and pathological behaviors. As a class of promising luminescent materials, AIE luminogens (AIEgens) are weakly or non-emissive in the form of isolated molecular species but emit particularly strong fluorescence in the aggregated and solid states. Motivated by the prominent advantages such as high brightness, large Stokes shift, excellent photostability, and good biocompatibility, AIEgen-based bioprobes have been widely explored in the field of biomedicine. This review aims to provide a systematic summary of the developmental history and an in-depth perspective of the current landscape of AIE in the biomedical field, with an emphasis on the disc...

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the crossing number and the nesting number are distributed symmetrically over all partitions of the minimal block elements and maximal block elements, as well as over all matchings on the set partitions.
Abstract: We present results on the enumeration of crossings and nestings for matchings and set partitions. Using a bijection between partitions and vacillating tableaux, we show that if we fix the sets of minimal block elements and maximal block elements, the crossing number and the nesting number of partitions have a symmetric joint distribution. It follows that the crossing numbers and the nesting numbers are distributed symmetrically over all partitions of $[n]$, as well as over all matchings on $[2n]$. As a corollary, the number of $k$-noncrossing partitions is equal to the number of $k$-nonnesting partitions. The same is also true for matchings. An application is given to the enumeration of matchings with no $k$-crossing (or with no $k$-nesting).

TL;DR: MIL-101 gave much higher affinity and bigger adsorption capacity to VOCs than activated carbon, offering great potential for real applications in the adsor adaptation and removal of VOCS.
Abstract: As volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a major group of air pollutants, development of materials for efficient adsorption and removal of VOCs is of great significance in both environmental and analytical sciences. Here we report metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) MIL-101 for the effective adsorption of VOCs at atmospheric pressure. A simple device was designed for quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), and six VOCs with various functional groups and polarities, i.e., n-hexane, toluene, methanol, butanone, dichloromethane, and n-butylamine, were chosen as targets to probe the adsorption properties of MIL-101. The developed device allows measurement of the adsorption isotherms and monitoring of the dynamic process for the adsorption of VOCs on MOFs, and also provides a useful tool for characterization of MOFs. The adsorption isotherms of the VOCs on MIL-101 followed the Dubinin–Astakhov equation with the characteristic energy from 5.70 (methanol) to 9.13 kJ mol–1 (n-butylamine), Astakhov exponent from 0.50 (n-bu...
