TL;DR: In this paper, an Ag/g-C3N4 composite photocatalyst, which was synthesized by thermal polymerization of melamine precursor combined with the photo-assisted reduction method, was applied as an efficient visible-light-driven photatalyst for inactivating Escherichia coli (E. coli).
Abstract: Ag/g-C3N4 composite photocatalyst, which was synthesized by thermal polymerization of melamine precursor combined with the photo-assisted reduction method, was applied as an efficient visible-light-driven photocatalyst for inactivating Escherichia coli (E. coli). The composite photocatalysts exhibited significantly enhanced photocatalytic disinfection efficiency than pure g-C3N4 powders. The mechanism of enhanced disinfection activity was systematically investigated by UV–visible diffuse reflectance spectra, photoluminescence spectra, and photo-electrochemical methods including photogenerated current densities, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) spectra and Mott–Schottky plots. The enhanced photocatalytic bactericidal effect was attributed to the hybrid effect from Ag and g-C3N4, which resulted in enhanced adsorption of visible light, reduced recombination of free charges, rapid separation and transportation of photogenerated electrons–holes. The disinfection mechanism was studied by employing chemical scavengers and ESR technology, indicating the important role of h+ and e−. Considering the bulk availability and excellent disinfection activity of Ag/g-C3N4, it is a promising solar-driven photocatalyst for cleaning microbial contaminated water in practice.

TL;DR: In this paper, carbon nanotubes are used as spacer in fabricating a 3D hierarchical structure with graphene sheets to prevent restacking of individual graphene sheets by using a simple green hydrothermal route.
Abstract: Aiming at preventing restacking of individual graphene sheets by using a simple green hydrothermal route, we have introduced carbon nanotubes to act as the spacer in fabricating a three-dimensional (3-D) hierarchical structure with graphene sheets. These 3-D hierarchical structure materials have been used to fabricate supercapacitor devices, and a high specific capacitance of 318 F/g for graphene with an energy density of 11.1 (W h)/kg has been achieved.

TL;DR: A zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanocrystal coated capillary is shown not only to have a strong ability to sieve branched alkanes from linear alkane isomers but also to offer excellent features for high-resolution gas chromatographic separation oflinear alkanes due to van der Waals interaction between linear alkanes and the hydrophobic inner surfaces of the micropores.
Abstract: A zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanocrystal coated capillary is shown not only to have a strong ability to sieve branched alkanes from linear alkane isomers owing to the narrow pore windows but also to offer excellent features for high-resolution gas chromatographic separation of linear alkanes due to van der Waals interaction between linear alkanes and the hydrophobic inner surfaces of the micropores. This makes the ZIF-8 coated capillary very promising for the specific adsorption and separation of alkanes in complicated matrices.

TL;DR: The present results indicate that NH3BH3 along with Ni1-xPtx alloy hollow spheres may find some applications for small-scale on-board hydrogen storage and supply.
Abstract: In this paper, nest-like Ni1-xPtx (x = 0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.09, and 0.12) hollow spheres of submicrometer sizes have been prepared through a template-replacement route and investigated as catalysts for generating hydrogen from ammonia borane (NH3BH3). Experimental investigations have demonstrated that the obtained Ni1-xPtx alloy hollow spheres exhibit favorable catalytic activities for both the hydrolysis and the thermolysis of NH3BH3. It was found that, in the presence of the Ni0.88Pt0.12 catalyst, the hydrolysis of NH3BH3 causes a quick release of H2, while the thermal decomposition of NH3BH3 occurs at lowered temperatures with increased mass loss. The present results indicate that NH3BH3 along with Ni1-xPtx alloy hollow spheres may find some applications for small-scale on-board hydrogen storage and supply.
