TL;DR: Flexible nanostructured reduced graphene oxide-sulfur (rGO-S) composite films are fabricated by synchronously reducing and assembling GO sheets with S nanoparticles on a metal surface and can serve as the cathodes of flexible Li-S batteries.
Abstract: Flexible nanostructured reduced graphene oxide-sulfur (rGO-S) composite films are fabricated by synchronously reducing and assembling GO sheets with S nanoparticles on a metal surface. The nanostructured architecture in such composite films not only provides effective pathways for electron transport, but also suppresses the diffusion of polysulfides. Furthermore, they can serve as the cathodes of flexible Li-S batteries.

TL;DR: By experimentally characterizing a microwave photonic crystal of saddle-shaped metallic coils, this system provides a photonic platform for exploring ideal Weyl systems and developing possible topological devices.
Abstract: Weyl points are the crossings of linearly dispersing energy bands of three-dimensional crystals, providing the opportunity to explore a variety of intriguing phenomena such as topologically protected surface states and chiral anomalies. However, the lack of an ideal Weyl system in which the Weyl points all exist at the same energy and are separated from any other bands poses a serious limitation to the further development of Weyl physics and potential applications. By experimentally characterizing a microwave photonic crystal of saddle-shaped metallic coils, we observed ideal Weyl points that are related to each other through symmetry operations. Topological surface states exhibiting helicoidal structure have also been demonstrated. Our system provides a photonic platform for exploring ideal Weyl systems and developing possible topological devices.

TL;DR: Two ultramicroporous metal-organic framework physisorbents, NKMOF-1-M (M=Cu or Ni), offer high hydrolytic stability and benchmark selectivity towards acetylene versus several gases at ambient temperature, and possesses the highest selectivities yet reported for C2 H2 /CO2 and C2H2 /CH4.
Abstract: Highly selective separation and/or purification of acetylene from various gas mixtures is a relevant and difficult challenge that currently requires costly and energy-intensive chemisorption processes. Two ultramicroporous metal-organic framework physisorbents, NKMOF-1-M (M=Cu or Ni), offer high hydrolytic stability and benchmark selectivity towards acetylene versus several gases at ambient temperature. The performance of NKMOF-1-M is attributed to their exceptional acetylene binding affinity as revealed by modelling and several experimental studies: in situ single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FTIR, and gas mixture breakthrough tests. NKMOF-1-M exhibit better low-pressure uptake than existing physisorbents and possesses the highest selectivities yet reported for C2 H2 /CO2 and C2 H2 /CH4 . The performance of NKMOF-1-M is not driven by the same mechanism as current benchmark physisorbents that rely on pore walls lined by inorganic anions.

TL;DR: In this paper, two 3D lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) based on cubane-shaped [Ln4(μ3-OH)4]8+ clusters were successfully synthesized and fully characterized.
Abstract: Two new isostructural 3D lanthanide metal–organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) {[Ln4(μ3-OH)4(BPDC)3(BPDCA)0.5(H2O)6]ClO4·5H2O}n (Ln = Tb (1) and Gd (2), BPDC2– = 3,3′-dicarboxylate-2,2′-dipyridine anion and BPDCA2– = biphenyl-4,4′-dicarboxylate anion) based on cubane-shaped [Ln4(μ3-OH)4]8+ clusters were successfully synthesized and fully characterized. There are two kinds of micropores with dimensions of 3.0 × 7.0 A2 along the b-axis and 4.5 × 5.5 A2 along the c-axis in the cationic framework. Ln-MOF 1 exhibits an intensive green luminescence triggered by the efficient antenna effect of ligands under UV light. Luminescent studies illustrate that Ln-MOF 1 could be an efficient multifunctional luminescent material for high-sensitivity sensing of small organic molecules, metal cations, and anions, especially for benzene and acetone, Cu2+, and CrO42–. The mechanism of the sensing properties was studied in detail as well. Additionally, this cationic framework also displays fast capture of pollutant CrO42– by anion exc...

TL;DR: It is pioneeringly demonstrated that decorating the Zn surface with a dual-functional metallic indium (In) layer, acting as both a corrosion inhibitor and a nucleating agent, is a facile but effective strategy to suppress both drastic corrosion and dendrite growth.
Abstract: Rechargeable aqueous zinc (Zn) ion-based energy storage systems have been reviving recently because of their low cost and high safety merits; however, they still suffer from the problems of corrosion and dendrite growth on Zn metal anodes that cause gas generation and early battery failure Unfortunately, the corrosion problem has not received sufficient attention until now Here, it is pioneeringly demonstrated that decorating the Zn surface with a dual-functional metallic indium (In) layer, acting as both a corrosion inhibitor and a nucleating agent, is a facile but effective strategy to suppress both drastic corrosion and dendrite growth Symmetric cells assembled with the treated Zn electrodes can sustain up to 1500 h of plating/stripping cycles with an ultralow voltage hysteresis (54 mV), and a 5000 cycle-life is achieved for a prototype full cell This work will instigate the further development of aqueous metal-based energy storage systems
