TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used bibliometric indicators of activity and the impact of co-authorship to analyze the articles published in the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua), represented in the Web of Science (WOS), in the period of 2004 to September 2014.
Abstract: This work uses bibliometric indicators of activity and the impact of co-authorship to analyze the articles published in the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua), represented in the Web of Science (WOS), in the period of 2004 to September 2014. A literature review discusses the indicators of science and scientific evaluation and production. Articles are located in three different bases within the WOS, which belong to Web of Science Home Collection, INSPEC and MEDLINE in fifteen thematic areas: Public Occupational and Environmental Health; Environmental Sciences; Geology; Nursing; Dentistry; Medicine; Veterinary; Pharmacy; Preclinical Sciences; Materials Science; Oceanography; Nuclear Engineering; Geophysics; Biomedical Engineering: and Biophysics. All production is made up of a sample of 67 articles, produced by the research units of the university. The production of the UNAM-Managua is mostly journal articles and a minority of conference papers, with an annual average growth rate of 10.2%. Most of them are recorded in English in journals of impact. A paper was highly cited, written in English and published with international collaboration of institutions from other countries. It is shown that the scientific production of the UNAM-Managua is aimed to develop international collaboration, and that co-authoring presents the most prevalent average of five authors per paper.

TL;DR: This paper analyses the participants' results in the Second Regional Intercomparison Exercise in 2013 in order to test their skills and acquired knowledge, particularly in the application of the IDEAS Guidelines.
Abstract: Internal dosimetry intercomparisons are essential for the verification of applied models and the consistency of results'. To that aim, the First Regional Intercomparison was organised in 2005, and that results led to the Second Regional Intercomparison Exercise in 2013, which was organised in the frame of the RLA 9/066 and coordinated by Autoridad Regulatoria Nuclear of Argentina. Four simulated cases covering intakes of (131)I, (137)Cs and Tritium were proposed. Ninteen centres from thirteen different countries participated in this exercise. This paper analyses the participants' results in this second exercise in order to test their skills and acquired knowledge, particularly in the application of the IDEAS Guidelines. It is important to highlight the increased number of countries that participated in this exercise compared with the first one and, furthermore, the improvement in the overall performance. The impact of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Projects since 2003 has led to a significant enhancement of internal dosimetry capabilities that strengthen the radiation protection of workers.

TL;DR: The Papalonal community has been characterized, by its high concentration of cultivated zone in the monoculture modality for the production of corn, peanuts, sorghum and sesame as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Arsenic is a habitual element in the atmosphere, soil, rocks, natural waters and living organisms. Its mobility in the environment is due to both natural processes and human activities. This element is extremely toxic and carcinogenic to humans. The communities of Tecuaname and El Papalonal are located to the east of the Momotombo and El Hoyo volcanic complex, the determination of total arsenic was made to twenty wells (dug and drilled). 100% of the samples analyzed none exceed the guide value for water for human consumption of 10 µg.l-1. The Papalonal community has been characterized, by its high concentration of cultivated zone in the monoculture modality for the production of corn, peanuts, sorghum and sesame. Most producers use agrochemicals to fertilize and control pests. The use of pyrethroids (cypermethrin) has been inconsistently associated with a series of long-term health effects, including alterations in the nervous system, immune system, skin allergies and dermatitis. The El Papalonal drilled well had a cypermethrin concentration of 785.27 ng.l-1.
