TL;DR: This article found that confusions were a function of similarity in levels of activity of the emotions concerned rather than, for example, similarity in evaluative meaning, and that there are universally recognizable characteristics of vocal patterns of emotion and that these characteristics are primarily related to the activity dimension of emotional meaning.
Abstract: The results of three experiments showed that Dutch, Taiwanese, and Japanese adults were able to identify Dutch vocal expressions of emotion beyond chance expectancy. Inspection of the confusion data further revealed that, in addition to symmetrical confusions, there were quite a few confusions that were asymmetrical. The outcomes of a multidimensional scaling finally suggested that confusions were a function of similarity in levels of activity of the emotions concerned rather than, for example, similarity in evaluative meaning. The conclusion was that there are universally recognizable characteristics of vocal patterns of emotion and that these characteristics are primarily related to the activity dimension of emotional meaning.

Abstract: The operational properties of the forward and backward integration and the product of Chebyshev polynomials are derived. These properties are applied to the analysis and optimal control of time-varying linear systems by the approximation of time functions by truncated Chebyshev series. Due to the unique property of the Chebyshev polynomials excellent results are obtained as demonstrated by examples.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explain the dependence of the dielectric constant on the electric field of PZT ceramics can be well explained by the mechanism of domain wall motion, due to the reduction of local stress in the domains which undergo domain switching.
Abstract: The dependence of the dielectric constant on the electric field of PZT ceramics can be well explained by the mechanism of domain wall motion. The mobility of the domain wall is increased by the A-site vacancies, due to the reduction of local stress in the domains which undergo domain switching. But O-site vacancies and the grain boundary act as pinning points for domain walls, so the domain wall motion is reduced when O-site vacancies dominate and the grain size is small. As a result, the dielectric constant after poling was larger than that before poling and the coercive field were reduced by the addition of A-site vacancy produce. But the opposite results were obtained, when the O-site vacancy produce was added.

Abstract: A convenient method to prepare 4-formyl-3-arylsydone (I) from 3-arylsydnone by the Vilsmeier reaction in moderate yields (30%-76%) was carefully investigated According to the Schmidt reaction, I reacts with sodium azide in concentrated sulfuric acid to produce 3-arylsydnone-4-carboxamide (II) But 3-arylsydnone-4-carhonitrile (III) is obtained, if dilute sulfuric acid was used instead When III treates with concentrated sulfuric acid, II is obtained in good yield The all possible reaction mechanisms are suggested

TL;DR: In this paper, the transient response of a straight fin composed of two different materials is analyzed and the inverse Laplace transform is solved by utilizing the Fourier series technique, which is shown that the conductivity ratio plays an important role on both the heat transfer rate and the time to reach the steady state.
Abstract: The transient response of a straight fin composed of two different materials is analyzed. The Laplace transformation and eigenfunction expansion methods are used in the analysis. The inverse Laplace transform is solved by utilizing the Fourier series technique. It is shown that the conductivity ratio plays an important role on both the heat transfer rate and the time to reach the steady state. However, the effect of diffusivity ratio is found to be insignificant on the transient response when the conductivities are constant.

TL;DR: In this paper, nonlinear equations of motion were derived for a transversely isotropic thick circular plate in a general state of nonuniform initial stress, including the effects of transverse shear and rotary inertia.
Abstract: In this paper, nonlinear equations of motion are derived for a transversely isotropic thick circular plate in a general state of nonuniform initial stress. The equations include the effects of transverse shear and rotary inertia. The large-amplitude flexural vibrations of simply supported and clamped thick circular plates subjected to initial stress are also investigated. The initial stress is taken to be a combination of pure bending stress plus an extensional stress in the plane of the plate. Nonlinear equations of motion are used to solve the vibration problems by the Galerkin method. In addition, the effects of various parameters on the nonlinear vibration frequencies are studied.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new set of delayed unit step functions (DUSFs) has been defined based on the approximations of the delay operators exp (−hs) and exp ( −αhs) o α  1) respectively by two new operational matrices of DUSFs.
Abstract: A new set of delayed unit step functions (DUSFs) has been defined. Based on the approximations of the delay operators exp (−hs) and exp ( −αhs) o α  1) respectively by two new operational matrices of DUSFs ore derived. One is the integration matrix which relates DUSFs to their integrals, and the other is the stretch matrix which relates DUSFs to their stretched forms. By the use of these two operational matrices the solutions of a differential equation of the type [ydot] (t)= ay( are obtained in a series of DUSFs. The results obtained may be piecewise-constant or pointwise. Compared with Walsh or block pulse function approaches, the proposed method is simpler in the construction of its operational matrices, and is more amenable to computer programming.

TL;DR: In this paper, the postbuckling behavior of a simply supported rectangular thick plate subjected to arbitrary loading conditions is investigated and the applied stress is taken to be a combination of a pure bending stress plus an extensional stress in the plane of the plate.
Abstract: The postbuckling behavior of a simply supported rectangular thick plate subjected to arbitrary loading conditions is investigated. The applied stress is taken to be a combination of a pure bending stress plus an extensional stress in the plane of the plate. Governing equations based on von Karman assumptions are used to solve the postbuckling problem by the Galerkin method. Buckling loads are obtained to compare with the results of Brunelle and Robertson. Postbuckled deflection is shown to increase with the transverse isotropic coefficient 5, and the effects of the in-plane bending stress are found to be quite significant for a thick plate.

Abstract: Model reduction of linear discrete systems by matching the discrete Laguerre spectra of the unit step responses of the original and reduced models is first discussed. In order to preserve the stable property of the original model, combined methods which use conventional stable methods to determine the parameters of denominator of the reduced models and use the discrete Laguerre spectrum matching to determine the parameters of the numerator are discussed

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of spinodal ageing on magnetic properties of Fe-30/33Cr-11.5/12.5Co-0/1Si alloys has been studied by magnetic measurements and electron microscopy.
Abstract: Four Fe-30/33Cr-11.5/12.5Co-0/1Si alloys (weight fraction) melted in air and treated by alternatively ageing and rolling have been studied by magnetic measurements and electron microscopy. The optimum treatment procedures have been determined and the best obtained magnetic properties are Hc = 54.0 kA m−1, Br = 1.19 T and (BH)m = 29.6 kJ m−1. Transmission electron microscopy proves that rolling after spinodal ageing is effective in elongating and aligning the original isotropic spinodal structures. The extent of elongation is quantitatively related to the amount of area reduction in rolling. Magnetic properties are found to be not very sensitive to slight variations in composition, cooling rates and the temperature of intermediate rolling, and to be tailorable by the exact control of the rolling operation. The rolling-ageing technique as a manufacturing process for Fe-Cr-Co magnets is thought to be promising. Finally, ways of further improvement are discussed.

Abstract: An algorithm for directly obtaining the canonical state-space model corresponding to the Cauer third form of continued fraction expansion (CFE) from a given general state-space model is presented. The algorithm can be used to determine the transfer function of linear time-invariant system from its state-space model as well as to obtain the reduced order models..Two new similarity matrices, one transforms a state-space equation from a general form to a Cauer third CFE canonical form, and the other transforms a state-space model in phase-variable form to a state-space model in a Cauer third CFE canonical form, are derived. Using these matrices an approximate relationship between the original state vector and the state-vector of reduced model obtained by the method of Cauer third CFE is established

TL;DR: The fractional conversions of the radial‐flow, fluidizedbed, and packed‐bed reactors with the same ‐residence time were found experimentally to be almost the same, revealing that the use of radial‐ flow and fluidization reactors for this immobilized enzyme system is highly feasible.
Abstract: Five different types of reactors were employed for glucose isomerization using shrimp shell as the support on which to immobilize the glucose isomerase. The Michaelis-Menten constants and effective diffusivity of glucose in the immobilized enzyme bed were experimentally determined and used in a theoretical analysis of the radial-flow reactor. The fractional conversions of the radial-flow, fluidizedbed, and packed-bed reactors with the same -residence time were found experimentally to be almost the same. This result reveals that the use of radial-flow and fluidized-bed reactors for this immobilized enzyme system is highly feasible.

TL;DR: Tetraethyltin is used as an n-type dopant in homoepitaxially growing GaAs films from triethylgallium and arsine vapor in a low pressure system as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Tetraethyltin is used as an n‐type dopant in homoepitaxially growing GaAs films from triethylgallium and arsine vapor in a low pressure system. The experimental data show that the growth rate can be enhanced by tin doping. It is found that the deep level transient spectroscopy concentration of the electron trap located at about 0.8 eV below the conduction band is suppressed by Sn doping. Gallium vacancy may be attributed to the trap. A growth model has been proposed, which can be substantiated by the experimental results.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of manganese on magnetic properties of Fe-24Cr-12Co-1.5Si alloy has been systematically studied by electron microscopy and magnetic measurements, in order to estimate the availability of certain grades of ferrochromium as raw material for manufacturing Fe-Cr-Co magnet alloys.
Abstract: Effect of manganese on magnetic properties of an Fe-24Cr-12Co-1.5Si alloy (weight fraction) has been systematically studied by electron microscopy and magnetic measurements, in order to estimate the availability of certain grades of ferro-chromium as raw material for manufacturing Fe-Cr-Co magnet alloys. It has been found that manganese deteriorates magnetic properties of the Fe-Cr-Co alloys. As the Mn content of the alloy exceeds 0.2%, the degraded magnetic properties become very difficult to recover by heat treatments. The reasons are attributed to, as evidenced from transmission electron microscopy, (1) much inferior enlongation and alignment of the spinodal phase in Mn containing alloys, (2) the possible existence between the spinodally decomposed α 1 and α 2 phases a third phase which degrades the squareness of the B-H loops, (3) the gamma stabilizing effect of Mn. Trials to compensate for the Mn effect by adding sulfur are not pronounced. It is concluded that ferro-chromium or any other raw materials for manufacturing Fe-Cr-Co permanent magnets should be free from manganese.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mechanism involving bromine atom as catalyst is proposed to explain experimental results of catalytic isomerization of maleic acid in aqueous sulfuric acid.
Abstract: Maleic acid (MA) in aqueous sulfuric acid undergoes catalytic isomerization in the presence of small amounts of Cerium(IV) ion and N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) or N-bromoacetamide (NBA). The rate of isomerization is very fast even at room temperature and the yield is quite acceptable. The rate of isomerization depends on the relative amounts of MA, Ce(IV), NBS, NBA, and H2SO4. However, maleic acid has greater effect on the final yield. Sulfuric acid exhibits more chemical effect than physical effects. The competitive redox reactions of Ce(IV), NBS, and NBA with MA limit the yield of isomerization to about 85%. In the vicinity of room temperature, a raise of five degrees in temperature nearly doubles the rate of isomerization. Acrylamide shows inhibitive effect on the isomerization. The rate of hydrolysis of NBS or NBA in aqueous acidic solution depends on the concentrations of hydrogen ion, and NBS or NBA itself. The rate of hydrolysis of NBA is much faster than that of NBS. Mechanism involving bromine atom as catalyst is proposed to explain experimental results.

Abstract: In this paper, a recursive algorithm is derived for computing the Laguerre spectra of a truncated Laguerre series which approximately represents the response of a system characterized by a transfer function model. Based on the minimization of the sum squared-error of a set of Laguerre spectrum equations of the model parameters, a model reduction method is proposed. The method is computationally attractive. An illustrative example is given. The method is also applied to design a model-reference feedback control system.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of precracking load on critical stress intensity factor were studied using a plane stress model of elastic/plastic stress distribution which has strain hardening effects included.
Abstract: The effects of precracking load on critical stress intensity factor are studied. A plane stress model of elastic/plastic stress distribution which has strain hardening effects included is used. The effects of residual stresses and strain hardening due to fatigue load are calculated by choosing plastic zone size as fracture criterion. And experimental results are obtained to prove the reliability of theoretical calculations. The results show that the influence of fatigue load can be estimated directly by a computer program.
