TL;DR: In this paper, a hollow fiber membrane contactor is used to separate CO2 from a gas stream, which is a promising alternative to conventional techniques such as column absorption, and the major advantages of the membrane absorption are the larger interfacial area, better device-modularity and more operational flexibility.

Abstract: In this article, we give some mathematical results for an isothermal model of capillary compressible fluids derived by Dunn and Serrin in [1]Dunn JE, Serrin J. On the thermodynamics of interstitial working. Arch Rational Mech Anal. 1985; 88(2):95–133), which can be used as a phase transition model. We consider a periodic domain Ω = T d (d = 2 ou 3) or a strip domain Ω = (0,1) × T d −1. We look at the dependence of the viscosity μ and the capillarity coefficient κwith respect to the density ρ. Depending on the cases we consider, different results are obtained. We prove for instance for a viscosity μ(ρ) = νρ and a surface tension the global existence of weak solutions of the Korteweg system without smallness assumption on the data. This model includes a shallow water model and a lubrication model. We discuss the validity of the result for the shallow water equations since the density is less regular than in the Korteweg case.

TL;DR: This work applies the multiresolution wavelet transform to extract the waveletface and performs the linear discriminant analysis on waveletfaces to reinforce discriminant power.
Abstract: Feature extraction, discriminant analysis, and classification rules are three crucial issues for face recognition. We present hybrid approaches to handle three issues together. For feature extraction, we apply the multiresolution wavelet transform to extract the waveletface. We also perform the linear discriminant analysis on waveletfaces to reinforce discriminant power. During classification, the nearest feature plane (NFP) and nearest feature space (NFS) classifiers are explored for robust decisions in presence of wide facial variations. Their relationships to conventional nearest neighbor and nearest feature line classifiers are demonstrated. In the experiments, the discriminant waveletface incorporated with the NFS classifier achieves the best face recognition performance.

TL;DR: In this article, the cross sections of the CFT columns in numerical analysis are categorized into three groups, i.e., circular section, square section, and square section stiffened by reinforcing ties.
Abstract: Proper material constitutive models for concrete-filled tube (CFT) columns are proposed and verified by the nonlinear finite element program ABAQUS against experimental data. The cross sections of the CFT columns in the numerical analysis are categorized into three groups, i.e., circular section, square section, and square section stiffened by reinforcing ties. Via the numerical analyses, it is shown that for circular CFT columns, the tubes can provide a good confining effect to the concrete especially when the width-to-thickness ratio D/t is small (say D/t 30). The confining effect of square CFT columns with reinforcing ties is enhanced by the use of reinforcing ties especially when the tie spacing is small and the tie number (or tie diameter) is large.
