TL;DR: A novel prediction model 'genetic algorithm optimised multi-layer perceptron neural network' (GA-MLPNN) in which genetic algorithm (GA) is integrated with Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network is proposed.
Abstract: Measurement of output variables for process parameters obtained from Taguchi DOE.Development of RSM and GA-MLPNN models for predicting thrust force.Optimization of thrust force using RSM and GA.Comparison of performance of RSM and GA models. Due to the intricacy of machining processes and inconsistency in material properties, analytical models are often unable to describe the mechanics of machining of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. Recently, soft computing techniques are used as alternate modeling and analyzing methods, which are usually robust and capable of yielding comprehensive, precise, and unswerving solutions. In this paper, drilling experiments as per the Taguchi L27 experimental layout are carried out on bi-directional carbon fiber reinforced polymer (BD CFRP) composite laminates using three types of drilling tools: high speed steel (HSS), uncoated solid carbide (USC) and titanium nitride coated SC (TiN-SC). The focus of this work is to determine the best drilling tool that produces good quality drilled holes in BD CFRP composite laminates. This paper proposes a novel prediction model 'genetic algorithm optimised multi-layer perceptron neural network' (GA-MLPNN) in which genetic algorithm (GA) is integrated with Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network. The performance capability of response surface methodology (RSM) and GA-MLPNN in prediction of thrust force is investigated. RSM is also used to evaluate the influence of process parameters (spindle speed, feed rate, point angle and drill diameter) on thrust force. GA is used to optimize the thrust force and its optimization performance is compared with that of RSM. It is observed that the GA-MLPNN is better predicting tool than the RSM model. The investigation in this paper demonstrates that TiN-SC is the best tool for drilling BD CFRP composite laminates as minimum thrust force is developed during its use.

TL;DR: Novel palladium(II)-N-(2-pyridyl)-N′-(5-R-salicylidene) hydrazine triphenylphosphine complexes were synthesized and characterized by UV, IR, 1H NMR and 31P NMR spectral analysis, C, H, N analysis and magnetic susceptibility measurements as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Novel palladium(II)-N-(2-pyridyl)-N′-(5-R-salicylidene) hydrazine triphenylphosphine complexes were synthesized and characterized by UV, IR, 1H NMR and 31P NMR spectral analysis, C, H, N analysis and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The complexes were effective in the catalytic oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols in presence of N-methyl-morpholine-N-oxide as oxidant. The oxidation reactions were carried out in dichloromethane. A mechanistic study of the above reactions has been proposed. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

TL;DR: The main objective of the current study is to select the optimum PCM among the alternatives to be used for TES unit incorporated in solar box cooker (SBC), and recommends erythritol as the best PCM for the SBC incorporated with TES units.
Abstract: Various thermal energy storage (TES) materials are used to increase the efficacy of solar cooker in off-sun hours. For the past few decades, phase change materials (PCMs) used as heat storage medium have become research interest. Selection of optimum PCM is important for the effective and efficient heat storage. Therefore, the main objective of the current study is to select the optimum PCM among the alternatives to be used for TES unit incorporated in solar box cooker (SBC). The PCMs are pre-screened among the alternatives used in earlier works based on the melting temperature. The optimum PCM is then selected with the aid of different multi-criteria decision -making (MCDM) techniques like TOPSIS, EDAS and MOORA. The criteria weights required for the optimization algorithm is found by using AHP, ENTROPY and CRITIC methods. Also, compromised values between the weights obtained through these methods are computed. The optimization algorithms are solved using MATLAB. The results of all MCDM techniques show that erythritol is the best alternative for the TES medium incorporated in the SBC. Further, the optimum mass of PCM and dimensions of the TES unit required for the SBC to operate during sun down hours for some specific duration is calculated by using a simple iterative solver developed with MATLAB. There is good agreement between the computational procedure and experimental study using paraffin wax as the TES medium. The iterative solution procedure also selects erythritol to be the best alternative as it required lesser quantity compared with other PCMs. Therefore, we recommend erythritol as the best PCM for the SBC incorporated with TES unit.
