TL;DR: In this paper, a double pass welding has been done in which the first pass was in reverse polarity and the second pass in straight polarity, and in the 2nd process both the passes of welding were completed with straight polarities.
Abstract: Welding has been done by taking mild steel as work piece material in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process. Material thickness and current were considered as input parameters. Joining of metals has been completed in two ways. In first process double pass welding has been done in which 1st pass was in reverse polarity and the second pass was in straight polarity and in the 2nd process both the passes of welding were completed with straight polarity. The comparison of microstructure and impact toughness has been investigated. It was found that more amount of heat was generated in the 2nd process as compared to the 1st process. Therefore, growths of grains in heat affected zone occurred and maximum growth occurred in 2nd than 1st process. Impact strength increased with decrease in current value and increase in material thickness respectively. The impact strength values for 1st process welding were relatively less as compared to 2nd process.

TL;DR: In this article, a closed loop modulated Hopping Discrete Fourier Transform (mHDFT) based quadrature detector is proposed to estimate the various vibration parameters.
Abstract: A closed loop modulated Hopping Discrete Fourier Transform (mHDFT) based quadrature detector is proposed to estimate the various vibration parameters. The modulated hopping DFT is efficient way of calculating DFT of N samples. The system poles always reside on the unit circle and as there is no twiddle factor involved in feedback of the filter so there is no accumulation of error while calculating the DFT of N samples. This algorithm is implemented in Phase Locked Loop design for non contact type vibration estimation. The detection accuracy of the proposed estimator is very high even for low frequency signals.

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of lightning stroke on UG cable insulation is investigated and a complete study is done to investigate electric field distribution in soil due to lightning stroke, minimum lightning current required for soil breakdown, current intercepted by buried cable and overvoltage generated on cable surface due to that current.
Abstract: Indirect lightning stroke i.e. discharge between cloud and ground has strong impact on the UG (Under Ground) cable insulation. In this paper, the impact of lightning stroke in UG cable is investigated. High current carried by lightning stroke to ground creates breakdown channel in soil if the resulting field exceeds soil breakdown strength. Through this channel current can reach cable and if the resulting field generated on cable surface exceeds breakdown strength of cable insulation then also the cable can damage. So proper assessment of Electric field distribution in soil and on cable surface due to lightning current is necessary to envisage proper planning of protection scheme and strategy for mitigating severity to UG cable. In this paper, a complete study is done to investigate electric field distribution in soil due to lightning stroke, minimum lightning current required for soil breakdown, current intercepted by buried cable and overvoltage generated on cable surface due to that current. Also the effects of various factors like soil resistivity, cable location, lightning strike position, lightning current etc. are studied.
