TL;DR: Theorem 3 as discussed by the authors is a generalization of the fixed point theorem for maps with inwardness or outwardness conditions given by Fan [6], and it is proved by a modification of Kakutani's method.
Abstract: Since then, numerous applications of this interesting theorem have been found. The object of this note is to obtain a generalization of Theorem 1 by relaxing, among the others, the compactness condition. It contains a fixed point theorem for maps with inwardness or outwardness conditions given by Fan [6]. As its direct consequence, we also obtain a new minimax theorem. Theorem 1, as pointed out in [6], is a geometrical formulation of the minimax inequality of Fan, which has been extended in other directions [1, 3, 4], mainly for the purpose of studying variational inequalities. Our main result is the following Theorem 3. Its proof relies on an extension of the well-known fixed point theorem of Kakutani [7] (see also [2], p. 174), which is stated below as Lemma 2 and is proved by a modification of Kakutani's method. Let X, Y be topological spaces. By a set-valued map f defined on X with values in Y,, we mean that to each point x e X , f assigns a unique nonempty subset f (x) of Y. f is called upper semi-continuous if for each open subset G of Y, the set {xeX : f(x) C G} is open in X. It is easy to show (e.g. [2], p. 112) that if Y is compact Hausdorff and if f (x) is closed for each xeX , then f is upper semi-continuous if and only if the graph {(x,y)eX x Y :ye f ( x ) } of f is closed in X x Y.

TL;DR: In this article, the barrier height decreases for n -type and increases for p -type when positive ions are introduced into the insulating layer, and the increase of open circuit voltage can be traced to the suppression of the dark saturation current by the depletion field induced by the positive charge.
Abstract: In this comprehensive study, several interesting results which are different from those previous are reported. We find the barrier height decreases for n -type and increases for p -type when positive ions are introduced into the insulating layer. The increase of open circuit voltage can be traced to the suppression of the dark saturation current by the depletion field induced by the positive charge, and to the diminution of the majority tunneling current by the oxide potential barrier. The tunneling probabilities for majority and minority carriers are different; there are only a finite amount of majority carriers with thermionic energy greater than q ( V bi − V s ) which can surmount the depletion potential and tunnel into the metal, whereas the photogenerated minority carriers derive kinetic energy in the depletion layer making tunneling easier. Transport coefficients for electrons to transmit from metal to semiconductor and from semiconductor to metal are different for the departure of built in potentials during illumination.

TL;DR: The concept of Cartesian product files was introduced and a formula for random files was derived and a method to find minimal N-tuples was presented and its properties were discussed.
Abstract: In this paper, we first introduced the concept of Cartesian product files. We then derived a formula for random files. A computer simulation experiment was performed to compare these two files. So far as shown by the experimental results, the Cartesian product file concept was indeed a good one. We also showed that the problem of designing an optimal Cartesian product file was partially related to the problem of finding a minimal N-tuple. A method to find minimal N-tuples was presented and its properties were discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the inner-shell ionizations by close and distant collisions are theoretically discussed in terms of the generalized oscillator strength and the contributions from these two kinds of collisions are separately estimated in the framework of the plane-wave Born approximation.
Abstract: Total L x-ray production cross sections of Y and Sn and M x-ray production cross sections of Au and Bi for proton impact have been measured over the projectile-energy range 3.0 -- 40 MeV and the ionization cross sections obtained for these shells are compared with calculations of the plane-wave Born approximation and the binary encounter approximation. The inner-shell ionizations by close and distant collisions are theoretically discussed in terms of the generalized oscillator strength and the contributions from these two kinds of collisions are separately estimated in the framework of the plane-wave Born approximation. Distant collisions in this energy region are not so effective as in the case of K-shell ionization, while at a very high energy the two kinds of collisions contribute nearly equally to the ionization. The experimental results show good agreement with the plane-wave Born approximation calculation except for the M-shell ionization of Bi.

TL;DR: In this paper, single crystals of CuInS2 were grown by the closed tube chemical vapor transport method, using iodine as the transport agent, and the theoretical values are verified by the experimental results, except for some explicable deviations.
Abstract: Single crystals of CuInS2 were grown by the closed tube chemical vapor transport method, using iodine as the transport agent. The charge zone was held at 800°C, while the optimal growth zone temperature was found to be in the range of 740–750°C. The shape and the size of the as-grown crystals were affected by the impurity adding and by the temperature difference between the two zones. The transport rate of the growth process has been examined on the basis of thermodynamics. The theoretical values are verified by the experimental results, except for some explicable deviations. The transport rate shows a maximum as a function of iodine concentration.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed dynamic mechanical and differential scanning calorimetric studies of cured blends of alcohol soluble nylon with up to 40 percent epoxy resin and found that the blends contain three phases: crystalline nylon phase, crosslinked nylon-epoxy resin phase, and crosslinked epoxy resins phase.
Abstract: Dynamic mechanical and differential scanning calorimetric studies of cured blends of alcohol soluble nylon with up to 40 percent epoxy resin indicate that the blends contain three phases: crystalline nylon phase, crosslinked nylon-epoxy resin phase, and crosslinked epoxy resin phase. There are unreacted nylon chains distributed in the former two phases. The crystalline nylon phase is composed of partially reacted nylon chains and a small amount of unreacted nylon chains. Degree of ordering in this phase, both unreacted and partially reacted nylon chains, decreases with increasing epoxy resin content. Stress-strain studies show that stress-induced crystallization in partially reacted nylon chains in the crystalline nylon phase does occur during elongation resulting in the occurrence of a maximum tensile strength (at 5 percent epoxy resin content) as in the case of crosslinked rubber. Lap shear studies using the blend as an adhesive indicate a maximum strength at 30 percent epoxy resin content, implying that adhesion and crosslinking effects due to incorporation of epoxy resin play a major role in the adhesion performance.

TL;DR: This paper shows that this symbolic Gray code can be used as a multikey hashing function for storing symbolic records, and it is shown that the resulting file exhibits the multiple-attribute tree structure.
Abstract: In this paper, we extend the binary Gray code to symbolic Gray code. We then show that this symbolic Gray code can be used as a multikey hashing function for storing symbolic records. The record stored at location k and the record stored at location k + 1 will be nearest neighbors if this hashing function is used. Thus, this symbolic Gray code hashing function exhibits some kind of clustering property which will group similar records together. This property is a desirable property for designing nearest neighbor searching (also called best match searching) systems. There are many other interesting properties of this hashing function. For instance, there exists an address-to-key transformation which can be used to determine the record stored at certain location k if this hashing function is used. Besides, if there are totally M records, we only have to reserve exactly M locations; there are no collisions and wasting of memory storage. At the end of this paper, it is shown that the resulting file exhibits the multiple-attribute tree structure.

Abstract: Exact uniqueness and multiplicity criteria of steady state in a non-adiabatic continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) are established through simple tangent analysis for n-th-order exothermic reaction. Criteria for multiplicity can be divided into four cases, i. e., n>1, n=1, 1>n>0, and n=0. The multiplicity criteria for an adiabatic reactor can be readily obtained from non-adiabatic results. Important parameters are reaction order, dimensionless activation energy, dimensionless heat of reaction, dimensionless heat transfer coefficient, dimensionless coolant temperature and dimensionless space time. Observed experimental multiplicity data in the literature are compared with the theory and show good agreement.

Abstract: A method has been developed for the determination of trace levels of chromium by radio-gas chromatography. The technique involves conversion of radioactive 51Cr to a metal chelate compound, using C2H5I131 as an internal standard, and detection of radioactivity of 51Cr in the chelate by a flow system surrounding a Nal(TI) scintillation detector. The detection limit is found to be as low as 10(-12) g. From the observed radio-chromatogram it can be shown that the method is selective and free from interference.
