25 Nov 1997TL;DR: In this paper, a load result describing the load is cell-specifically formed by comparing a signal strength of desired signals and a combined total strength of interferences (13) and the desired signals (23).
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for load control and a radio system. In the invention a load result describing the load is cell-specifically formed. The load result is formed either by comparing a signal strength of desired signals (23) and a combined total strength of interferences (13) and the desired signals (23) or by weighting a signal-to-interference ratio with a bandwidth or a data transmission rate. The load result is compared with a threshold value of the highest load level allowed of a cell (1). The data transmission rate in the cell (1) is increased if the load result is smaller than the threshold value. The data transmission rate in the cell (1) is reduced and the establishment of new connections is avoided if the load result exceeds the threshold value. In heavy load situations a signal-to-interference objective is also changed in order to balance the load result.

06 Feb 2001TL;DR: In this paper, the IKE protocol with private keys and certificates is used to generate WLAN link level keys with the access point and provide mutual authentication in wireless local area network (WLAN).
Abstract: The security keys in the mobile terminals and access points of a wireless local area network (WLAN) are created, utilized and managed for a communication session between a mobile terminal and access point. Both the WLAN link level security protection and IP security functions of the network use the same Internet Key Exchange (IKE) key management protocol and use certificates in the same certificate hierarchy. When the mobile terminals associates with the network, it uses the IKE protocol with private keys and certificates to generate WLAN link level keys with the access point and provide mutual authentication.

05 Oct 2005TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a framework for seamless handoff between VoIP and circuit switched CDMA voice, including messages and procedures to facilitate such handoffs. But the handoff process may not be automatic and transparent to the users of the communication session.
Abstract: Provided are improved systems, methods, and devices for handing off VoIP sessions and CDMA voice calls between wireless access networks and CDMA networks, thereby providing a user of a mobile device the ability to roam between wireless access networks and CDMA circuit switched voice networks during ongoing communication sessions. Provided are network architectures and process frameworks that enable seamless handoff between VoIP and circuit switched CDMA voice, including messages and procedures to facilitate such handoffs. Importantly, the voice traffic is not interrupted, and the handoff process may be automatic and transparent to the users of the communication session.

19 Nov 1996TL;DR: In this paper, a terminal is coupled to a telecommunications network using radio communication, which consists of a computer (100) and a radio module (200) to be coupled thereto.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a terminal to be coupled to a telecommunications network using radio communication, which consists of a computer (100) and a radio module (200) to be coupled thereto. The radio module is connected to the computer using a digital bus coupling, for example a PCMCIA bus. This terminal can be connected to a telecommunications network using radio communication, for example, the GSM system. It is essential to the invention that the operations required in the transmission and reception of a message and their performance have been divided between the computer and the radio module. Two alternative embodiments are presented. In the first embodiment, the radio module contains ancillary processors (213, 214) to achieve a sufficient calculation capacity; in the second embodiment, the computer's processor (110) performs the main part of the required processing. The necessary radio frequency elements (230) are located in the radio module.
