TL;DR: An overview of chip-level channel equalizers is delivered with special attention to adaptation methods suitable for the WCDMA downlink and examples on the equalizers′ performance are given in Rayleigh fading frequency-selective channels.
Abstract: The most important third generation (3G) cellular communications standard is based on wideband CDMA (WCDMA). Receivers based on TDMA style channel equalization at the chip level have been proposed for a WCDMA downlink employing long spreading sequences to ensure adequate performance even with a high number of active users. These receivers equalize the channel prior to despreading, thus restoring the orthogonality of users and resulting in multiple-access interference (MAI) suppression. In this paper, an overview of chip-level channel equalizers is delivered with special attention to adaptation methods suitable for the WCDMA downlink. Numerical examples on the equalizers' performance are given in Rayleigh fading frequency-selective channels.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for random access channel (RACH) capture, where user equipment (UE) transmits a series of time-spaced access preambles each having an increasing power level to Node B and terminates access preamble transmission in response to an acquisition indicator (AI) signal returned from Node B.
Abstract: A system and method for random access channel (RACH) capture, where user equipment (UE) transmits a series of time-spaced access preambles each having an increasing power level to Node B and terminates access preamble transmission in response to an acquisition indicator (AI) signal returned from Node B and transmits its RACH message part. A collision detection preamble (CDP) is sent immediately after the message or embedded with the message. A collision detection indicator (CDI) signal matching the CDP is transmitted from Node B to the UE identified as having the failed RACH message requesting retransmission of the message. Optionally, the relative retransmission power level is also specified to the UE along with the CDI signal.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system and method for controlling base stations for multimedia broadcast communications, where a base station includes a reporting subsystem configured to broadcast at least one of a counting report request and a channel quality indictor report request to user equipment in a service area thereof.
Abstract: A system and method for controlling base stations for multimedia broadcast communications. In one embodiment, a base station includes a reporting subsystem configured to broadcast at least one of a counting report request and a channel quality indictor report request to user equipment in a service area thereof. The reporting subsystem is also configured to process at least one of a counting report and a channel quality indicator report received from the user equipment and provide an activity status report therefrom. The base station also includes a dynamic single frequency network subsystem configured to determine to provide multimedia broadcast and multicast services in the service area thereof as a function of an activity status report from another base station.

TL;DR: In this article, a fold monopole/dipole/loop antenna with four resonances in which three of them are 0.5λ, 1λ, 1λ and 15λ modes has been proposed.
Abstract: A fold monopole/dipole/loop antenna offers unique advantages over a conventional Planar Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) and monopole antenna for a mobile cellular device. Perhaps the most significant benefit is the fact that up to three resonant modes could be generated in a single continuous loop structure. In this paper, a novel hexa-band internal folded monopole/dipole/loop antenna has been proposed. The proposed antenna has four resonances in which three of them are 0.5λ , 1λ and 1.5λ modes. The distinctive feature of the antenna is an extra 2λ folded dipole mode, which has not been reported so far, is excited and utilized. All these four modes can be employed to cover the Low LTE700/GSM850/900 Band (LB: 698-960 MHz) and the High GSM1850/1900/UMTS2100 Band (HB: 1710-2170 MHz). The proposed loop antenna has been simulated, prototyped and tested. It is shown that the numerically simulated results are in close agreement with the experimental prototype results and proved that the antenna operates as proposed.
